Females, Football and Philanthropy

Spa treatments, chic boutiques, makeup tutorials…this wasn’t your father’s tailgate party!

Females, Football, and Philanthropy” kicked off Super Bowl weekend in glam style. Powerhouse New Jersey women (and some men!) filled the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ to hobnob with celebrity chefs and CBS Sports Radio personalities (including the night’s emcee, Amy Lawrence, and WFAN’s Janice Kirkel), shop an exclusive silent auction, and sip on custom cocktails by Punzone Vodka. The Wellness Lounge treated guests to massages, chiropractic adjustments, ear candling, and reflexology. And what’s a tailgate party without some football?  Players from the New York Sharks, part of the Women’s Football Alliance, showed guests how to toss a football, hit a target, suit up and have lots of fun!

“Females, Football & Philanthropy” was all to benefit the American Cancer Society, and honored a courageous group of local women that won their battle against their illness.  Honorees included actress Regina Taylor; Annie Del Moro; Andrea Raynor, author and 9/11 chaplain; Nicole McGrath, DDS, founder of the KinderSmile Foundation; Pamela Pecs Citron, founder of Pendo Systems, Inc.; and Deb Belfatto, co-founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (North Jersey Chapter).

#HipNJ’s Gina Cerniglia “Glammed up the Ultimate Party for a Cause” by interviewing some of the honorees, attendees, and founder of the event, Allison Sargent.

Governor Richard J. Codey

Not many people express how proud they are of their hometowns quite like Governor Richard J. Codey.  The Orange, New Jersey native and the Garden State’s 53rd governor sat down with HipNJ’s  Lisa Marie Latino to give her a “slice” of his home town.

In his 30 plus years in the legislature, Governor Codey has become one of New Jersey’s fiercest mental health advocates, spearheading countless improvements that have led to better mental health care throughout the state of New Jersey.  He also passed the the Smoke-free Air Act, which banned the use of tobacco products indoors.

When he’s not busy fighting for the rights of New Jersey’s citizens, he’s running his family’s funeral home, with locations in Caldwell and Boonton.  You can also find him coaching sports and relaxing with his beloved family.

Governor Codey entertained us at his favorite Orange hangout, Star Tavern “World Famous” Pizzeria.   Find out now how growin’ up Jersey helped shape him into the man he is today.
