Mike and the Mad Dog Reunion at Radio City

Legendary sports talk radio hosts Mike Francesa and Chris Russo (aka “Mike and the Mad Dog“) recently teamed up for an all-star reunion at Radio City Music Hall to raise $1.1 million for the Garden of Dreams Foundation!

The Garden of Dreams Foundation works with The Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Networks Inc. to positively impact the lives of children who are facing challenges such as homelessness, extreme poverty, illness and foster care. With a mission like that, it’s no wonder why Mike and Chris (who were partners for 19 years on WFAN) chose to come back together for this special night!

New York/New Jersey’s biggest sports stars came out to support the cause, including four-time World Series champion manager, Joe Torre; two-time Super Bowl champion coach, Tom Coughlin; former New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy and many, many more! #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino chatted with some of the A-list attendees on the hall-of-fame red carpet!

New York Giants star Victor Cruz, a Paterson native who grew up listening to “Mike and the Mad Dog”, was excited to see the team back together again. “They were just so honest, so real and so inspiring. You could relate to them. They were so ingrained in this culture.”

“They were the pioneers of talk radio,” explained New York Mets fan favorite manager, Bobby Valentine. “This phenomenon of talk radio let the fans be part of the discussion.”

Mike and Chris are on record saying that the New York Rangers Stanley Cup win was their favorite sports moment (which says a lot, considering all the successes this area has had!) The face of that historic victory, Mark Messier, was shocked by that nod. “It’s incredible, especially with all the great moments in the city and all that they have been a part of.”

Mike and Chris’ style was bold and brash, but their “tell-it-like-it-is” honesty was appreciated by former New York Giant and current FOX Sports anchor, David Diehl. “It was always unbelievable to hear their discussions. Not just because they were fun but they were educated.” But more importantly for David, “It’s great for me to be able to give back to The Garden of Dreams and all these people that have given us so much as athletes in this city.”

Will Mike and Chris’ “one night only” reunion turn into a more permanenat thing? Stay tuned!

Behind the Scenes of TMZ with Adam Glyn

TMZ‘s Adam Glyn is definitely not the type of paparazzi that celebs hate.

This Union, New Jersey native is a one-of-a-kind journalist who many stars actually love chatting with.

Hip New Jersey found out what it’s like being behind the TMZ cameras and got the 411 on all of your Hollywood favorites.

Adam tells us:

“I don’t consider myself paparazzi. I consider myself a fun journalist. I don’t case around celebrities, and if they’re not into it, I walk to other way and they walk the other way.

TMZ brought back the journalism into news. They say, what happened? But what about this? But what about that? And keep questioning things and therefor you make stories out of stories.

I get to interview everyone on all platforms. I’ve done politics. I’ve interviewed Jimmy Carter. I’ve done stuff with Beyonce! LeBron James, Michael Jordan… I’ve seen it all.”

Adam thinks Kim Kardashian is great and says that Kanye West is “actually a nice guy” despite his notorious reputation for being a complete jerk.

Adam speaks highly of Joan Rivers. He tells us that she used to take off her earrings and give them to him She’d tell him to pass them along to his mother or grandmother. How sweet — RIP Joan!

Adam gets to go places most people could only dream of! Adam’s favorite experience working for TMZ was when he got a backstage pass to his favorite band, the Dave Matthews Band, and hang out with the band after the show in their trailer.

In order to spot the most celebs, Adam starts his day uptown in NYC and heads down to the West Village, SoHo, and East Village later in the afternoon. He stops in restaurants and cafes, bumping into stars along the way.

“At the end of the day, you have to respect the hustle,” says Adam.

Valentine’s Day with the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund

#HipNJ‘s Lisa Marie Latino traveled #AcrossTheRiver to New York City’s Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders to spend Valentine’s Day with the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund, a group of very special kids, and one fun Cupid!

“As Coach Coughlin always says, our goal is to be there families in ways that they need us- financially, emotionally and practically.  With these visits, we wanted to give these kids a day off from cancer and have some fun,” explained Lynn Chwatsky, Managing Director of The Jay Fund (NY/NJ).

Former New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford dressed as the lovable matchmaker and spread cheer among the hospital’s staff and patients (while unleashing some serious arts and crafts skills!)

“I’m so thankful that the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund has given me the opportunity to spend time with these amazing kids,” Steve said.  “There’s nothing better than giving back, and nobody does it better than Coach Coughlin’s charity.”

One of hospital’s patients, Lisette, voiced how thankful she was for this special day.

“Not many people come and choose to do something fun for kids who are sick,” Lisette said.  “It’s nice to have a laugh from someone while going through these treatments.”

Dr. William Carroll, Medical Director of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, echoed Lisette’s appreciation.  “The Jay Fund makes what we do here possible.  Our children are able to achieve remarkable feats because of their support.”

The visit was part of a week-long V-Day celebration by The Jay Fund, who helped spread cheer at other area hospitals including St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.  Former New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin and his wife, Judy and NBC-4 sportscaster Bruce Beck participated in those events.

Other support came from New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich,  Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, children from St. Rita School in Alexandria, VA, Tanglewood School in Staten Island, Frankford Township School in Branchville, NJ and North Arlington Middle School in North Arlington, NJ.  They all made Valentine cards for The Jay Fund to give to the cancer patients and their families.  President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush even penned a note for the Jay Fund’s families!
