Hip New Jersey spotlights the businesses and communities that are making the Garden State fabulous!

Our Weekend Recap Kicks Off in Rio

Cheers to the weekend! August may be the Sunday of summer, but that’s no reason to keep the good times from rolling. #HipNJ is dedicated to bringing you round-the-clock coverage of everything going on #NJ-related. Here’s what went down this weekend in our weekend recap.

Friday, August 5th

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Friday with a huge opening ceremony that paid tribute to the history of Brazil’s rich culture and climate change. Up to 11,000 athletes from 206 countries marched into the arena. Of those included the 31 NJ-native American athletes. Check out non-stop coverage of the games until August 21st and see them show the entire world what the #GardenState is made of.

iPic, Bergen County’s first dine-in movie theatre located in Fort Lee, opened to the public on Friday. The theatre is the first of its kind in that it’s a bit more upscale than traditional movie theatres. The meals offered are prepared by top-tier chefs and are finger foods for the most part. Ticket options include Premium, which grants a customer soft leather seating and personal pull-out tables, and Premium Plus, which allows customers a personal two or three-person pod with reclining seats, waiter service and unlimited popcorn. Yum! Premium tickets are $19 while Premium Plus tickets are $27. There’s only eight screens and 528 seats, so make your reservation today!

Asbury Park was the place to be on Saturday as Grammy-nominated folk rock band The Lumineers took the stage right on the boardwalk at the Stone Pony Summer Stage.

Sunday, August 7th

In what seemed like a follow-up to Taylor Swift’s NJ wedding crash earlier this summer, Steven Van Zandt made a surprise appearance and joined The Infernos Band on stage at a Florham Park wedding. Van Zandt is a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and is also known for his acting career which includes a starring role in The Sopranos.

Music legend Paul McCartney made a stop at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford as part of his One on One Tour. There’s no telling of when the 74-year-old will stop blessing us with live renditions of his own material and The Beatle’s tunes. So we’re just going to let it be.

Jude. About to see the original. Hey Jude. #mum #paulmccartney

Fifth Harmony took the stage in Camden this weekend at the BB&T Pavilion on The 7/27 Tour. Don’t you wish working from home was as fun as this girl group makes it sound?

Last night was so amazing??

stop my crisis

“Stop My Crisis”

Is your insurance giving you a hard time? Is your mortgage through the roof? Is “adulting” just not going well for you? Well, #HipNJ might just have the answer you’re looking for. Vivian Gaspar’s “Stop My Crisis” is your ultimate guide to survival when life just isn’t going right. Gaspar, both an author and producer, paid a visit to the studio to tell us a little more about her book and talk show of the same name.

Of the large selection of crisis topics that she covers, Gaspar said, “There’s something for everyone, including billionaires.”

Impressed with Gaspar’s experience and expertise, co-producer Ron Rossinick, who also came to the studio, reached out to Gaspar in hopes of co-producing the talk show. Gaspar has been involved in television since 2003 while Rossinick has sufficient backgrounds in video production and business, so their abilities came together well. They enjoy the creative freedom and control that comes with co-producing “Stop My Crisis.”

So you want to stop your crisis? You can view “Stop My Crisis” Thursday nights at 10:00 p.m. and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. on princetontv.org. The broadcasts are also archived on YouTube, Vimeo and soon on Apple TV.

Share this segment on social media and YOU can be entered to win autographed copies of TWO “Stop My Crisis” books!

International Beer Day

By: Katy Kronberg

Grab your bottles and cans New Jersey, because today is International Beer Day! It is time for all you beer lovers to rejoice and celebrate your favorite beverage and #HipNJ is here to help!

Beer is one of the world’s oldest prepared beverages. The exact origin of beer is still debated, but some researches claim that beer goes back as early as 3000 BC in ancient Egypt. The beverage has evolved over thousands of years from fermented wheat to now its four main ingredients being barley, water, hops, and yeast. It is a seven-step process from start to finish; mashing, sparging, boiling and cooling the wart, fermentation, carbonation, and then packaging. All that is left to do is enjoy!

Hip New Jersey is celebrating the holiday by revealing 8 restaurants, bars, and pubs that offer the best craft and specialty beers in the state. So, cheers!
