Home Renovations with C.R. Interior Designs

Caitlin Rutkay of C.R. Interior Designs, a renowned #HipNJ interior designer with over a decade of experience, knows how to find her way around a renovation. Take this advice from Architectural Digest should you be looking to break ground on your own this spring!

Bruce Irving, a realtor and home renovation consultant, tells Architectural Digest how you should seriously consider hiring both an architect and an interior designer at the starting line. “The two disciplines are separate, with separate training and knowledge stores, and since I believe strongly in the wisdom of investing in good design, I think you should have both involved, and preferably from the get-go,” he says. More help needn’t even be pricier, and could even be cheaper in the long term. “Having both from the start doesn’t mean you’ll be paying for both the whole time,” Bruce notes. “It will mean that the new space will be generated holistically rather than serially.”

kid-friendly home

#HipNJ’s Most Kid-Friendly Home

Back when you were a Garden State child, did you wish for your home to be a little less adult and more fun? Maybe you imagined inviting your friends over to play on your giant indoor slide. Perhaps you yearned for a park-like backyard you could run, play, lounge and swim. Then maybe you pictured retreating to your private, custom decorated bedroom to rest up for more playtime.

For one #HipNJ family, this can now be a reality in New Jersey’s most kid-friendly home!

At 79 Mrytle Avenue in Montclair, you will find a stunning custom colonial on almost an acre of land. This spectacular space features a floor to ceiling wine cooler, gas fireplace, gym, bedroom and yes, an indoor slide.

And that is just the basement!

Overall, the home has ten-foot ceilings, open floor plan, four fireplaces, and park-like backyard. The main level includes a grand two-story entry leading to living room and a gourmet eat-in kit with Carrera marble counters, walk-in pantry and much more. The house, built in 2011, boasts five bedrooms including a luxurious master suite with two walk-in closets!

Out back, the future homeowner will enjoy a blue stoned backyard patio, playground, 18-person in-ground hot tub and outdoor kitchen with gas firepit.

All of this could be yours for a cool $2,399,000!

Mindful Style

A cluttered closet is a cluttered mind.  One #hip woman is here to help you let go of your materialist attachments and tap into your highest potential.

#HipNJ’s Kelly Dillon sat with Mindful Style founder Betsy Ames,  who is rejuvenating lives one closet at a time.

Betsy has enjoyed a fabulous career in fashion, but nine years ago realized that motherhood didn’t jive with her former fashionista persona.  She made over her closet to reflect her new life, and her inner circle quickly signed up to give their closets the same practical touch.

“I believe when you have less, your mind is cleared,” explained Betsy.

Betsy works with clients to create a “personal formula” based on clothing and accessories that reflect their true lifestyle.  To cut down on wardrobe anxiety, Betsy simplifies clients’ selections by streamlining their choices.  Betsy also urges clients to patronize companies with eco-friendly, high quality items, and teaches responsible ways to get rid of old clothing.

“Don’t throw away your garments.  Donate, or give to a consignment shop,” urged Betsy.  “A typical polyester blouse it like a plastic bottle- it takes 100 years to disintegrate.”

In this segment, Betsy offers advise to all the closet hoarders out there.  “I would start by putting things away out of site.  If you don’t miss it, why are you hanging onto it?”
