Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation Gala

Pequannock, New Jersey-born Derek Jeter has been dazzling New York Yankees fans for almost 20 years, and his accomplishments off the field have been just as impressive.

Since the launch of his Turn 2 Foundation in 1996, the charity has awarded more than $19 million in grants to promote healthy lifestyles for thousands of children.

#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino recently attended Turn 2’s 18th Annual Gala Dinner at the Sheraton New York Times Square in New York City, which raised over one million dollars for their various programs. Derek’s Yankee teammates (like CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner), Hollywood celebrities (Seth Meyers) and some Jersey staples (Joe Piscopo and Sampson Davis) came out to support The Captain.  Guests were also treated to a special performance by international recording artist Robin Thicke.

On the red carpet, Lisa Marie chatted with Derek, his former manager Joe Torre, and former teammate Tino Martinez.  We also spoke with Senior VP of Marketing for the New York Yankees, Deborah Tymon (who was awarded with the 2014 Turn 2 MVP award) and MLB Network‘s Harold Reynolds.

Watch our segment to learn more about the great work Turn 2 is doing in the community, his Hall-of-Fame career, and how it all started right here in #HipNJ!

Montclair Art Museum Centennial Celebration

The Montclair Art Museum has been displaying some of the most exquisite art for the past 100 years, and to celebrate have thrown some of the most exciting events this season…all in the name of charity!

MAM Director of Development Susan Wall and her other board members are the architects of this fab commemoration for the museum.  #HipNJ highlighted some of these occasions, giving you an insiders look into these events and what is still to come.

MAM has not only been a pioneer in the art world, but the Centennial Luncheon showcased how the town of Montclair has been a leader in fashion for the past century!  #HipNJ caught up with Co-Chair Claudia Placentra, who spoke about how delightful it was to see the support for MAM’s 100th birthday.  Also present was Decades founder Cameron Silver, who took MAM supporters on a fashion trip back through time.

The MAM Centennial Ball and their Fashionably Late After Party were the epitome of glamour.  The event drew a who’s-who of celebrities, including Kristen Connolly from “House of Cards”, makeup artist and Montclair resident Bobbi Brown, and Jeh Johnson, Director of Homeland Security.  Jennifer Conti, a member of the Centennial Celebration Event Committee, told #HipNJ how amazing it is to be from a place that advocates the arts so strongly.

Sorry that you missed out?  Don’t worry, there is still time to be a part of the celebration!  The museum is holding the Centennial Toast & Taste on Friday, June 13.  It will be a lovely night to partake in some premium spirits and fine art!

The Chris Canty Foundation at Saks Fifth Avenue

Classy brands recently teamed up for a great cause at Saks Fifth Avenue at The Shops at Riverside!

Chris Canty– former New York Giant,  current member of the Baltimore Ravens, and founder of the Chris Canty Foundation– was on hand for the Giuseppe Zanotti Trunk Show and viewing of the 2014 Aston Martin Rapides.

Ten percent of all purchases from this exclusive shopping event went to benefit Chris’ charity, which is dedicated to enhancing the development of #HipNJ- metropolitan area youth through sports, mentoring, educational programs, health and fitness activities.

#HipNJ‘s Kelly Dillon spoke to Chris- who won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2011- about all the wonderful initiatives he is a part of, which also includes breast cancer awareness and domestic violence prevention.

Kelly also chatted with Stephen Lewis, a consultant with Saks Fifth Avenue, on why #HipNJ is a great place for other athletes and celebrities to celebrate their philanthropic efforts, a sentiment that Aston Martin Summit | Short Hills‘s Allan Greenfield echoed while promoting the iconic automobile maker’s luxury vehicles!

The Giuseppe Zanotti Trunk Show is one of many fabulous shopping opportunities that Bergen County’s Saks Fifth Avenue provides for the #HipNJ shopper.  Bookmark their website to find out about their other amazing events!
