Lara Stolman and Mike McQuay on “Swim Team”

Producer/Director, Lara Stolman and Mike McQuay, head coach of the Jersey Hammerheads, sat with Steve Adubato on “One-on-One” to discuss how the film “Swim Team” is empowering kids on the autism spectrum to explore their skills and achieve greatness.

Stolman says that the most significant message to be taken from “Swim Team” is that, “individuals with autism and developmental disabilities have skills.” “We need to be more inclusive,” she says.

“Swim Team” tells the story of the parents of a boy on the autism spectrum forming a competitive swim team, recruiting other teens on the spectrum and training them with high expectations and zero pity. The flim chronicles the extraordinary rise of three diverse young athletes, capturing a moving quest for inclusion, independence and a life that feels like winning.
