Organization Goals

New Season, New Organization Goals!

Whether its just a desire to freshen your space after a long winter or to declutter after too much hoarding (c’mon #HipNJ, we can all relate!) here are your Spring 2018 tips for an organized home, compliments of Caitlin Rutkay of C.R. Interior Designs:

  • Baskets and bins are your friend. If it can be hidden, do it! Create a simple streamlined look to hide a multitude of messes. These shelves are from Caitlin’s own laundry room.

  • Be ruthless. The pro organizers agree–if its not been worn in a year, donate. Don’t clutter the cubbies with jackets that will never be reached for anyway.
  • Better your lighting. Want an easier routine? Find what you need faster with upgraded lighting in your mud room, laundry or garage.
  • Tough wallcovering decorates and protects. Not an organizational tip, but it covers a pet peeve-dirty knicked walls in high traffic areas. Dense commerical grade vinyls are stylish AND practical. Think the look of wood planks or woven grasspaper but in super durable constructions. As far as your trim and built ins think beyond white for lessening scuffs.

“Hollywood East” Opens at Montclair State

Montclair University held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the 26th in celebration of their brand new, state of the art multimedia School of Communications and Media building. MSU alumni, University board members, state legislators, staff, and students alike all got to tour the impressive new building post-ceremony.

According to Montclair State University’s President, Susan A. Cole, ‘impressive’ could possibly be an understatement as it may be “the most technologically advanced media and production facility of any university in North America and…is, in fact, more advanced than many professional facilities.”

The facility will provide students a wealth of opportunity for education and growth within the industry they’ve chosen to study, and as special guest New Jersey State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg expressed, there is hope for students to utilize the new facility as they “go out and change the world.”

The building was made possible through a strategic partnership between MSU and Sony Electronics’ Professional Solutions Americas. Some of the tools and resources include 4K and HD studios and control rooms, multimedia labs, and an advanced studio production center.

The building has been dubbed “Hollywood East” and it’s sure to make a great difference in the education of students at MSU!

Tyler Wisler on Interior Design

Tyler Wisler, New Jersey interior designer, sat with Joanna Gagis on “A Life & Living Moment” to discuss making a space “speak” to his clients.

Wisler’s first job was at a small boutique design firm in New York City. There, he learned that so much of design is how you work with people. “We’re like a therapist trying to figure out how to navigate a space and make it a signature of that person,” he says.

He states that some clients know exactly what they want, but others love bringing on someone with a visionary mind. “We love those clients,” Wisler says. He always tries to incorporate a person’s personality into their space.
