National Hazelnut Cake Day.

By Andrea Fasciano

June 1st is National Hazelnut Cake Day. It is commonly celebrated by indulging and giving in to our inner temptations for sweets, whether we are carefully watching our diets or not. This national tradition lured me into discovering the best places in New Jersey to help satisfy my craving.

Sometimes cooking is a hassle. However, there are many great places to buy Hazelnut cake. So, for all the Hazelnut Cake lovers out there, here are some bakeries around the Garden State that offer this delicious cake.

AsaltandButtery, Caldwell

Cocoa Bakery, Jersey City

Gencarelli’s Bakery, Wayne

Sweet Love and Cake Bakery, Glen Rock

Delsea Drive-In Theatre

Delsea Drive-In Theatre

#HipNJ takes it old school with New Jersey’s only drive-in movie theater!

Get ready for some serious nostalgia, you guys. Delsea Drive-In Theatre takes you back to a time where 3D and IMAX movies didn’t take a toll on your wallet. Though they’re a dying breed, there is no reason for them to be less fun than they used to be. Whether you are on a date or with the family, drive-in movie theaters allow you the comfort of your own car. Not being stuck in a movie theater allows you to enjoy your company, laugh at the parts you’re not supposed to (don’t worry, we’re all guilty), and check those ever-important notifications on your phone. Plus, it’s cheaper! At Delsea Drive-In Theatre, double features are guaranteed and triple features are a special treat. Seeing two movies (and possibly three) for the price of one at a regular theatre is almost unheard of.

Enjoy the finer things in life by simplifying them. Now that the weather is warming up, it may be time for you to take a step back in time and take your first adventure of the summer. Located in Vineland, the theatre is only an hour drive from Atlantic City!

Don’t forget to check what movies are playing at delseadrive-in.com before you go.

What Exit Wines at Old York Cellars

It’s not too late to give something “deliciously Garden State” for the holidays!

#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino toured the pristine estate of Old York Cellars in Ringoes and uncovered their best products for gifting, including their charity label, What Exit Wines.

“We always wanted to do a Jersey-centric label with our wines,” explained general manager Laurin Dorman.  “We wanted to have a little fun with the ‘what exit are you from?’ joke that New Jersey is famous for.”

What Exit Wines originally launched to raise funds for Hurricane Sandy relief.  Their efforts netted $5,000 for Garden State families, and since 2012, the label has helped other local charities.

In addition to labels proudly boasting your #HipNJ town, labels can promote just about anything you wish!  Company logos, well wishes, thank you’s, wedding favors….the list goes on!

If shipping in New Jersey, order by December 21st to ensure delivery before Christmas.  If picking up in store, order by December 23rd to pick up by December 24th!

After sampling the decadent “Vidal Blanc” and “Barbera Blend”, it was off to visit international award-winning winemaker Scott Gares, the man behind the magic.  Scott explained to us how he creates his “poetry in a bottle“.

Despite a recent report in the Journal of Wine Economics, the New Jersey wine industry is not only booming, but on par with some of the best grapes in the world!  Old York Cellars’ 13 acres of vineyards were planted in 1979, the first in the state to produce wine under the New Jersey Farm Act of 1981.

Old York Cellars also hosts numerous events and excursions for wine enthusiasts.
