Friday The 13th in Blairstown

Friday the 13th is typically known as a day of dread. However, in Blairstown, it is practically a holiday.

Fans still visit the New Jersey township, where portions of the original 1980 horror film “Friday the 13th” were filmed.

The Blairstown Diner was one of the spots used in the film. The diner sees a rise in business when the date comes around, particularly among visitors driving out to see the movie at nearby Roy’s Hall.

Every year on this day, a man dressed as the infamous Jason Voorhees wanders the streets, taking pictures with fans and scaring unsuspecting residents.

Buck Hill Brewery and Restaurant will be hosting a Friday the 13th themed night tonight, and you can check out the details below.

To take part in some Friday the 13th fun, head over to Blairstown tonight.

2K Walking Dead for Life at Montclair State University

Montclair State University will hold their inaugural “2K Walking Dead for Life” run on Sunday, October 22, and #HipNJ has the spooky scoop!

The event will raise money for the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. In addition to the run, a zombie costume competition will take place, which will be judged by Tony Award winning costume designer Linda Cho.

The event is being produced by the university’s Public Relations Student Society of America, a professional organization affiliated with the Public Relations Society of America

“This will take place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and my members and I are proud to be able to help the John Theurer Cancer Center in its fight to save the lives of so many women who battle breast cancer each year,” chapter president Sabrina Araullo explains. “So, we hope a lot of people of all ages come on down on October 22.”

Makeup artists will be on hand to help participants transform from a normal person into a zombie for the day. Costume winners will be selected from four age categories: 14 and under, 14-18, 18-25, and 25 and up.  The winners will receive tickets to Broadway shows.

Linda Cho won her Tony in 2014 for her costume designs for “Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”  She was also nominated for a 2017 Tony for “Anastasia.”   In addition, noted film costume designers Amit Gajwani and Carisa Kelly will also be in attendance as judges.
