Media Personality Bill Spadea On The Presidential Election

Hip New Jersey and its organization are made up of a diverse group of men and women who have vast knowledge in local and international relations, views and world knowledge. We support all nominees and will be eager to see the best man or woman win in November.

Hip New Jersey’s Armand Cucciniello recently spoke with media personality Bill Spadea about the current presidential election.

Bill Spadea currently hosts Chasing News on FOX Television and is the morning drive host on New Jersey 101.5. He is a former United States Marine and Real Estate Executive from New Jersey.

Bill was inspired to go into media after receiving a call from a reporter with FOX Television in 2012 asking him to be a part of a show that they were developing. Spadea showed up and saw a man running towards him. The man approached him and said, “Has anyone ever told you, you have an unusually large head?” That man was Jerry Burke, Executive Producer of Chasing News. “And that was it,” Spadea said.

When asked how social media has changed rallying the youth vote since the 90’s, when he was elected Chairman of the College Republican National Committee, Spadea stated that social media platforms have helped people get into politics.

“Inside politics are now happening in broad daylight, in full view of everyone,” he says. “Everyone’s on Twitter, everyone’s on Instagram.” Before hiring someone, a company checks out the candidate’s social media profiles. With that scrutiny on every profession, politics become “a little more palatable.”

When asked what challenges candidates today face in attracting the youth vote, Spadea gave a surprising response. “Young people have always been smarter than the media likes to give them credit for.” He specifically points out that college students are “engaged in a real debate.”

The former United States Marine also spoke out about his view of the state of the US Military and leadership. “Too often, politicians want to politicize the military,” he states. Thus, the sacrifice that the men and women are making is forgotten. He believes that the leaders in Washington do not have a real perspective. “It’s too much of a political tool, and we missed the mark.”

So, should we keep boots off the ground? “To me, this is a decision not for politicians,” he states. “It’s a decision that the politicians can make with the thoughtful advice of the military.”

When it comes to Governor Chris Christie, Spadea believes that the Governor has an advantage. Christie was “one of only establishment Republicans to come out forcefully for Donald Trump.” So, if Trump wins, “who knows what’s next for Chris Christie?” This would mean that Christie would be “reborn” as a national politician.

Does Spadea believe that Trump could beat Hillary Clinton? Yes, he does. “Trump is talking about jobs. It’s about jobs. It’s about us. It’s about making sure that we as Americans have a bright future, and right now Trump is the only one speaking that language, so it could easily be Donald Trump.”

Thank you to Bill Spadea for taking the time to speak with us, and be sure to check out Chasing News.

Childhood Friend of Christina Grimmie Shares Memories of Late Singer (HipNJ Exclusive)

By Kenneth Barilari

Singer Christina Grimmie of Marlton was fatally shot on Friday night after performing at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida. #HipNJ had the opportunity to speak with her childhood friend and next door neighbor, Kristen, about her memories with the singer.

Grimmie started posting covers of popular songs on YouTube in 2009 and quickly gained popularity. In 2014, she auditioned for The Voice with a stunning rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” that made all four judges turn their chairs. She joined Adam Levine’s team and finished the competition in 3rd place.

In February and March 2016, Grimmie opened for Rachel Platten on her Wildfire Tour, where she performed songs from her latest EP, Side A.

Kristen said they both attended Vacation Bible School growing up, where they would rehearse Bible songs together. Grimmie was always performing in their hometown, “whether it was in a basement or a bar,” making it clear that singing was her passion from a young age.

Grimmie attended Cherokee High School, where she sang in the choir and participated in Cherokee Idol, the school’s annual singing competition.

When Grimmie joined The Voice, “the whole town was behind her,” Kristen said of their hometown. She said that the singer received tremendous support every step of the way.

Grimmie has given the world a ton of memorable performances, both on The Voice and on her own YouTube channel. Her cover of “Party in the U.S.A” has become her widely popular on YouTube, with over 12.5 million views to date.

Kristen recalled one song that stood out to her, Grimmie’s cover of David Guetta and Sia’s “Titanium.”

“It made me melt. It was incredible,” Kristen said. Grimmie’s cover of “Titanium” now has over 18 million views.

When she first heard the news of Christina’s injuries that would later become fatal, Kristen could not believe it. “I woke up to my phone blowing up with the news. It was devastating. I’m still in shock I cannot believe she’s gone,” she said.

Flowers and pictures have been placed around the Fallen Chief Memorial and Marlton will hold a candlelight vigil in the singer’s honor tonight.

When asked how people that knew Christina would describe her in three words, Kristen responded, “Talented, kindhearted, and independent.” Christina Grimmie’s talent and compassionate heart will be remembered always, and her voice will live on through the memories she gave to both her fans and those who had the opportunity to get to know her.

Inside The Wedding Taylor Swift Crashed (HipNJ Exclusive)

By Kenneth Barilari

Earlier this week, we told you about how Taylor Swift surprised a lucky New Jersey couple at their wedding, giving a surprise performance and taking photos with guests.

Taylor Wedding

Now, #HipNJ has an exclusive inside look, thanks to the Brant Beach Yacht Club in Ship Bottom.

We had the opportunity to speak with Michele Kondash, the Club’s Assistant General Manager, about the occasion from the venue’s perspective.

Just a quick recap: Taylor surprised the couple, Max Singer and Kenya Smith, after receiving a letter from the groom’s sister, Ali. The idea came after the passing of Max’s mother. Max and Kenya held a private ceremony in his mother’s hospital room so she could see her son get married. “Blank Space” was the soundtrack to their mother-son dance. Ali wrote about this in the letter and asked if Swift would attend the wedding.

We found out that Taylor’s attendance was not just a surprise for Max and Kenya. The venue did not know she was coming either! All they were told is that someone would be coming to surprise the couple. They assumed that it would be a relative or someone special the couple hasn’t seen in a while and wasn’t expecting to come.

brant1When she did find out that the mysterious special guest was superstar Taylor Swift, Michele was in shock and disbelief. “It’s not every day your favorite artist shows up to your work,” she said.

Not being aware of the superstar’s plan to attend meant that there were no special accommodations to make and no secret to keep.

When Taylor stepped into the venue, she greeted the staff members and shook their hands. Michele went on to say that the singer “was very sweet and nice.”

brantweddingWhen asked what Taylor’s coming meant to the venue, she stated that the Club as a whole is “just honored and proud that she was here and created such an amazing memory for the couple.”

So, what exactly did Taylor add to the couple’s special day? “When it comes to weddings or any milestone life event, there’s nothing more heartbreaking than someone you love not being there on your day,” Michele said. “I can’t speak on behalf of Max and Kenya, but I think this surprise was a pretty special silver lining.”

As far as the influence it will have on the venue’s future, “We definitely now have one heck of a story!”
