What Exit? Web Series

One girl is living at home again after her fiancé calls off their engagement. Her best friend’s blooming NYC career takes a sharp turn when her company lets her go, taking her back home as well. While the two are excited to reconnect by hitting up the clubs, they are left with the looming question of what comes next for them. What exit will they take?

This question, among others, is answered in What Exit?, a NJ-based series that is hitting the web throughout the #GardenState. The show tells the story of Tina and Lexi, two struggling 20-somethings living in New Jersey.

Some cast and crew from the series stopped in the #HipNJ studio to share with us a little about the show and how it came to be.

Director and creator Sophia Eptamenitis told us the show was originally written as a feature. With a restricted budget, she decided to make it a web series instead. She was working on a short drama prior to What Exit? but came across a draft of the web series’ script and decided she wanted to move forward with that instead.

Lauren Klemp
, who plays Claudia, Tina’s college-aged younger sister, studied theatre at Fordham University and does a lot of work in the field, but enjoys working with Eptamenitis on What Exit? the most. Jessica Carollo, who portrays Tina, has been around the acting business all her life and studied at Circle in the Square Theatre school, located in Manhattan at the bottom of a Broadway theatre.

Klemp enjoys letting loose while filming the club scenes. Carollo particularly enjoys filming conversational scenes between two characters.

“It was just more personal and intimate,” Carollo said.

#HipNJ Celebrates #NationalChickenWingDay

Not too long ago, #HipNJ covered #NationalFriedChickenDay. Did you think that was it? Well, think again! Today, we’re celebrating #NationalChickenWingDay. That’s right: even a single cut-style of poultry gets its own holiday! How about that?

Restaurants all over the #GardenState are getting in on the celebration with some deals that are too good to pass up. Check them out!

Buffalo Wild Wings
One of the nations top sports bar chains is offering half-priced wings today. If wings are what you’re looking for, you’ll never be disappointed by a visit to good ol’ B-Dubs. With such an extensive range of choices, you’ll almost always get exactly what you want. NJ locations include Secaucus, Toms River and Mays Landing.

Although chicken wings aren’t the main focus at this sports bar, Hooters definitely isn’t missing out on the celebration. For $14.99 or $12.99 for traditional or boneless wings, respectively, the chain is offering an all-you-can-eat deal until 4 p.m. Hurry up! You can find a location in Paramus, Atlantic City, Lawrenceville and many more places in NJ.

Quaker Steak & Lube
The smaller chain is offering an all-you-can-eat deal that knows no restrictions. It doesn’t matter what style of wings you’re craving – for $15.49, you can have whatever you want all day long. There’s also 25 different choices of dipping sauce. Happy picking! The three NJ restaurants are located in Brick, Edison and Phillipsburg.

Wing Zone
Wings are awesome, but you should never be without a balanced meal! Counter-serve chain Wing Zone is supporting this idea by offering an order of fries and a drink along with an order of 10 wings for just $10.99. The two NJ locations are in Saddle Brook and Wayne.

The OFFICE Beer Bar & Grill
The NJ-based restaurant is taking a different approach to this day – anybody who has a permanent tattoo of either a chicken or chicken wing anywhere on their body is entitled to FREE all-you-can-eat wings. But hey, stranger things have happened, right? Tattoo-less chicken wing lovers who are looking to win big today can also post a video of their best chicken cluck on Instagram and tag @40NORTHRestaurantGroup with the hashtag #CluckingGoodWings. A winner will be randomly chosen to win a $50 gift card to any 40 NORTH Restaurant.

A Day “Live with Kelly’

By Noelle Gambino

After sitting in 2 hours of traffic and missing the check-in deadline time, I was out of hope that I would make it on time to see “Live with Kelly” yesterday. In line at 8:30, 30 minutes before Live goes live, there was still enough room in the audience for a few more. Walking through the revolving door of ABC Studios I didn’t realize I would be walking into one of the best days of my life.

The show started as planned at 9 as the audience was packed into the seemingly large studio. New Jersey native Kelly Ripa holds true in real life to the sweet and comedic personality seen on screen. The guest for the day was Jerry O’Connell and the two hosts are such a dynamic duo. After the first live taping at 9AM filled with Joe Jonas, Bernadette Peters, and plenty of puppies the audience was asked to stay to be part of filming the intro to two other “live” tapings. Stay tuned for the August 10th episode when Kelly tries to decipher her daughter’s emoji language and one audience member (me!) comes up with the idea that a dolphin emoji represents that her day went “swimmingly”.

After the show while waiting in the lobby for in interview with Joaquin, Ripa’s very polite youngest child, Kelly herself walked right through the front door. I had met her once before on a college tour while she was with her eldest son, so I had gotten over being star struck and could have a real conversation with her. She remembered me! After all the excitement I forgot to capture the moment on camera. But after talking with her, looks like there will be plenty of opportunity if she visits he-who-shall-not-be-named on campus.
