The Big Blue, Blink-182, and Some Brilliant Olympians: Weekend Recap

New Jersey refused to let the harsh heat wave and nasty storms crash its party! Here’s what happened in our favorite state this weekend.

Friday August 12th

It was complete chaos at MetLife Stadium as the New York Giants “kicked off” the weekend with their game against the Miami Dolphins. Bad storms resulted in an hour-long rain delay before the game even started as well as some soaking wet fans. However, Mother Nature proved herself not to be a complete inconvenience when the storms left a vibrant rainbow over the stadium.

Saturday August 13th

New York Giants offensive guard Justin Pugh posted a video on his Instagram of him and a few of his teammates goofing around and turning up in their shared house in Jersey City. The video went viral over the weekend, reaching over 69,500 views in just 48 hours, and the number is still rising! If you want to watch your favorite players jump into a pool while wearing flag pants or hit a TV with a baseball bat, check out the video below!

NJ native English Gardner sprinted her way into the spotlight throughout the Women’s 100 Meter Dash events this weekend. The twenty-four-year-old track star managed to place second in the semifinals and tenth in the final round. Sure, she didn’t bring home a medal, but this Voorhees resident is definitely one to watch in the future! #TeamUSA

Blink-182 pleased the Garden State’s “inner 90’s kid” when they played at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. The band performed various hits from their new album California which they released this past July. The list of special guests, including A Day to Remember, The All-American Rejects, and All Time Low, made the show even more nostalgic for everyone!

The Black Brunch NJ

Ready, set, network! #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sat down with L’Oréal Drayton, founder of The Black Brunch NJ.

The Black Brunch NJ is a monthly networking brunch put on in order to allow New Jersey business owners and entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect and network with their professional peers. The event has an all-black dress code that allows for a mix of professionalism and elegance.

Of the benefits of business owners attending a The Black Brunch NJ gathering, Drayton said, “It allows for them to learn what’s going on in the industry and still stay within the legal guidelines.”

The inspiration for this was conjured up after a trip Drayton took to Atlanta. While there, she attended and hosted similar networking events and felt that the New York metropolitan area needed a similar event that brought attention to the local entrepreneurial skills. From there, The Black Brunch NJ was born.

So are you a small business owner looking to expand your network? Do you think you have what it takes to take yours or someone else’s business to the next level? Visit The Black Brunch NJ’s website today to learn more and to a find a brunch coming near you!

Making The Hip New Jersey Studio – The Final Episode

#HipNJ has launched our own mini reality series, Making the Hip New Jersey Studio! The series details our quest to craft the perfect studio setting and getting it to the place where we truly believe that it can be.

We hired New Jersey-based graffiti artist Shawn Mack, who is ready to show us the final product!

“Ahead of schedule and below budget is always a plus,” #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino states. Shawn delivered on both ends of the spectrum.

Shawn steps out of the studio and asks, “Do you want to check it out?” The moment we have been waiting for has arrived.

“It all fit well, and it was Hip New Jersey,” Shawn says. Lisa thanks Shawn and tells him that it is “gorgeous.”

Now, time to decorate. We filled the studio with stylish goodies to make the room complete. “My wildest studio dreams have come true,” Lisa states as the series comes to a close.

Mack runs CreativSite, specializing in creativity and custom design work for interior/exterior, canvas and more. To learn more, check out their website, “like” them on Facebook, and “follow” them on Instagram.
