#HipNJ’s Weekend Report: July 28th-30th

Where did you spend this surprisingly sunny weekend? If you were off the grid for the last three days, #HipNJ has got you covered on the hottest happenings around the #GardenState! 

  1. Liberty Science Center (LSC) After Dark: Barbecue- Jersey City, NJ  

Thought the Liberty Science Center was only fun for kids? Think again! This weekend, #HipNJ attended LSC After Dark’s Electric Barbecue event that was chock full of yummy food and fun drinks! LSC After Dark teamed up with Midnight Market Jersey City to bring over 20 vendors to the event.  $5 tapas-style plates were served including guac tacos from The Gauc Spot, gourmet meatballs from Hanna’s Meatballs, and grilled pineapple from Susanna Foods! LSC didn’t forget the drinks though- a #HipNJ fave, Frosé, was served to all those in attendance.

2. 50th Annual Haskell Horse Race- Momouth, NJ 

This Sunday, the #GardenState went off to the races in Monmouth County! Hundreds of New Jersey residents flocked to Monmouth Park to watch the 50th annual Haskell Horse Race.  Those in attendance were able to place bets, spend time at the bar and enjoy a day full of good company!

3.  Taphaus Jersey City- Jersey City, NJ  

After our trip to the Liberty Science Center, #HipNJ visited Taphaus in #JerseyCity! We instantly fell in love with the restaurant’s industrial modern vibe.  The experience got even better from there, thanks to our lovely server Catherine, some of the most divine veggie burgers and truffle fries in town, and our window seat overlooking the best cityscape in the world! #TaphausJC is a must visit the next time you are in the area!

4. 35th Annual QuickCheck New Jersey Festival of Ballooning- Readington, NJ 

This weekend was also host to the 35th Annual QuickCheck New Jersey Festival of Ballooning!  Readington, NJ was host to the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America! Attendees were able to take hot air balloon rides, enjoy a wide selection of good food and drink,  and see multiple live performances.  Not only this, but the event featured many other forms of entertainment, including a fireworks show! 

5.  Peach Harvest Festival- Chester, NJ 

Chester gave a #peachy twist to the weekend by kicking off the Peach Harvest Festival! The festival was a celebration of everything peach, from homemade peach ice cream, peach pie and peach picking! The fun didn’t stop there- there were pony rides, a moon bounce and lots more family fun! If you missed it this weekend, don’t worry!  The festival will continue until August 13th

6.  Walk Around Beer Tasting Party- Toms River, NJ

Toms River spiced up the weekend with a Walk Around Beer Tasting Party! 30 different beers of many styles were available for tasting and purchasing! The event also featured lite bites to curb your appetite! 


7.  Wine and Wings Festival- Hamburg, NJ 

Sussex County mixed high class and casual this weekend by hosting a Wine and Wings Festival! Attendees were able to taste wine from 3 wineries, Cava Winery, DiMatteo Vineyards, and Villari Vineyards!   Event goers were able to sip on fine wine while enjoying live entertainment and food trucks! 


8.  Summer Antiques Festival- Morris Township, NJ 

On July 30th, the William G. Mennen Sports Arena hosted the Summer Antiques Expo.  There were fifty-plus dealers in attendance of the event! Event goers were able to shop an eclectic mix of items with everything rom county Americana to jewelry and collectible porcelain!

It’s that time of week again! #HipNJ has your weekend recap on the hottest events happening around the Tri-State area. From the ultimate girls night out to the ultimate celebration of corn, this weekend was a busy one for the #GardenState!

 


29th Annual LBIF Fine Art Festival- Loveladies, NJ 

This weekend the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences (LBIF) held the 29th annual LBIF Fine Art Festival! Attendees were able lend their support to local artisans and enjoy a weekend-long celebration of art.  Paintings, photographs, sculptures, metalwork, digital art and mixed media art were all available for purchase at the event!

Morris County 4-H Fair- Chester, NJ 

Morris County also contributed to making NJ fun this weekend! From July 19th-July 23rd, the town of Chester hosted the Morris County 4-H Fair.  The fair showcased the many achievements of Morris County 4-H members while also providing a weekend of family fun for the community! This event had everything from live music to delicious food to hot air balloon rides!  


Fun Girls Night Out- Paramus, NJ 

Bergen County hosted the ultimate #JerseyGirl’s night out this weekend!  The Terrace in Paramus, NJ was transformed into the ultimate social shopping destination! Attendees were able to shop the latest styles while grabbing a bite to eat and sipping on fine wines.  There was also a live DJ, a photo booth and “pink carpet paparazzi”.  All in all, Bergen county truly provided the community with every girls dream #GNO

The Bayonne Renaissance Festival- Bayonne, NJ  

Bayonne kicked it old style this weekend by hosting The Bayonne Renaissance Festival! Even the most die-hard Shakespeare fans surely found their fix at this event.  Attendees were able to enjoy entertainment, weapons demos, sonnet readings, Shakespeare productions, Princess Tea Parties and artisan crafters!  


Rockin’ For the Barnyard Benefit Concert- Hope, NJ  

Hope, NJ rocked out for a good cause this weekend by hosting the Rockin’ For the Barnyard Benefit Concert! On top of providing top-notch musical performances, the event featured yummy Vegan food, wine, beer and desserts! All proceeds from the event were donated to the Barnyard Sanctuary, an organization committed to animal protection! 

Corntastic Weekend- East Rutherford, NJ 

Bergen County also hosted the ultimate celebration of all things corn this weekend!  This Corntastic Weekend featured free grilled ears of corn for all guests and a corn-eating contest! Participants were able to try their luck at winning the first place prize of $500 by seeing how much corn they could eat in 3 minutes! Attendees were also able to participate in Corn Carrying and a Corn Husking Contest. 

Food Truck Festival at the Hermitage- Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 

This Saturday also marked the Hermitage Museum’s 2nd Annual Food Truck Festival! This event provided fun for the whole family, with craft beer, lives bands and fun activities for the kids! Not only this, but the event was thrown to benefit the Hermitage Museum, a historic house that is a source of great community pride. 

Alyssa Alia

Alyssa Alia, Author of “If The Table Could Talk”

#HipNJ considers Alyssa Alia, author of the cookbook “If the Table Could Talk,” a culinary life saver! Alia writes recipes that are easy for any busy #JerseyGirl to whip up without feeling wiped out. 

Alia explains to Joanna Gagis in “A Life and Living Moment” how she put her culinary genius to practical use.  She says, “The recipes are very very simple, I simplified them, and even how I wrote the recipes [was to ensure simplicity].” 

Alia goes on to discuss how the entire cookbook is styled so that it is headache proof for even the most inexperienced chef! So, grab your aprons and pick up a copy of “If the Table Could Talk”, because Alyssa Alia has made cooking simple!
