Thanksgiving

Fun Before the Feast on Thanksgiving Eve

We all love getting together with family for Thanksgiving: the plethora of home cooked meals, the strange distant family members you only ever see around this time every year, the endless questions about your relationship status…

Well, the home cooked meals mostly.

Jokes aside, this time of year is optimal for recognizing all that you are thankful for in your life and to share an evening with loved ones over delicious food. Still, let’s face it: Thanksgiving is not quite a day for partying and letting loose.

This year, HipNJ wants you to try letting looseThanksgiving Eve. and we’ve got you covered!

Here’s a few ideas on where to go this Wednesday night in our very own Garden State:

  1. House of Que, Hoboken, NJ
Cheap drinks and the possibility someone will inevitably come dressed as a turkey that we can point and laugh at until we’re sloshed enough to borrow the costume? Sign us up.
  2. Maggie’s Bar and Grill, Lakewood, NJ
More drink specials, free admission for ladies, a dance floor, and karaoke – perfect to get your mind off of Aunt Linda’s prodding questions about your career.
  3. Starland Ballroom, Sayreville
Emo Night is comin’ at you Thanksgiving Eve – if run of the mill partying isn’t for you and you’d like a night of rock music and good vibes, tickets only run from $12.50-$20 ($23 if you buy the day of).
  4. Tally-Ho, Hoboken
Great food, fun games, good times – perfect for Thanksgiving Eve (I mean look how big the font on the flier is? Fonts don’t lie)
  5. Just Jake’s, Montclair
Enjoy some live music, booze, and food. Just Jake’s is sure to show you a great night.

Wherever you end up going Thanksgiving Eve, we hope you have insane amounts of fun! (Just not too much fun, you still have to get yourself to Thanksgiving dinner the next day…)

Enjoy!

Scooch A Mi Boutique Grand Opening Parties

#HipNJ spoke with Ellen Eppie, founder and chief curator of Scooch A Mi Boutique, about their October 26th grand opening parties and her inspiration for opening the boutique.

Scooch A Mi is an eco-friendly and socially-conscious boutique selling jewelry, accessories, and gifts, located in the heart of downtown Chatham.

The goal of Scooch A Mi is to provide distinctive, quality items at the best possible price. The boutique is filled with treasures from local, national and international artists and artisans. Eppie says that she will never sell anything that she wouldn’t buy herself. “I need to believe in it completely.”

Opening events will support local anti-bullying charity Mallory’s Army, which was founded after Mallory Rose Grossman, 12, of Rockaway, took her own life because of horrific bullying. “Having two daughters, this really resonated with me,” Eppie says. “My mission is to share mindful kindness and bring out the individuality of each person.”

Eppie is most excited to showcase the work of the featured artists and artisans. “I love that in many cases, I am the first venue where some of these artists will be able to display their work,” she says. “It is a privilege to be able to get their work out there.”

On Ocotber 26th, Scooch A Mi will host a Brunch Party from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and a Grand Opening Event from 7 pm to 9 pm. Guests can expect giveaways, prizes, food, and wine. “I want the boutique to be a community place,” Eppie states. RSVP to nubia@cieloconsulting.biz, or simply walk through the doors the day of the event.
