Founded in 2012, Have You Met Newark offers fun and informative walking tours, food tours, and bar crawls. Guides trace historic landmarks from Newark’s past and explores its current vibrancy with visits to galleries, shops, eateries, churches, and parks.
“One huge misconception is that the people in Newark don’t enjoy their hometown,” Manz says. “When you come on a tour, you really see that everyone is part of the community and contributing to their community.”
The guides are Newark residents, and co-founders are urban planners committed to the city. Tours always feature guest speakers and include a snack.
Gerard Adams, founder and CEO of Fownders, sat with Steve Adubatoon “One-on-One” to discuss how his organization is giving back to Newark by helping entrepreneurs.
Adams, widely known as the “Millennial Mentor” is a serial entrepreneur, angel investor and philanthropist. He was the founder of Elite Daily, the millennial content platform that reached up to 80 million readers worldwide and sold to the Daily Mail for $50 MM dollars. His current endeavor, Fownders, is a progressive education social enterprise, focused on educating young entrepreneurs through the principles of entrepreneurship and human development.
“We bring different entrepreneurs and exerts in,” Adams explains, “and we take them through a personal development course, as well as business development and influencer development.” This is all done in Newark.
Fownders recently launched its Social Learning Platform, which enables entrepreneurs to join if they are not able to get to Newark. “We want to see Fownders start here in Newark, but we really believe it should be in every community nationwide.”
