Former New York Yankees Captain and shortstop Derek Jeter hosted the 20th Annual Turn 2 Foundation Dinner, presented by Morgan Stanley at Cipriani Wall Street, and #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino was there to talk to the event’s A-list attendees, including Jorge Posada, Dellin Betances, Kathy Ireland and The Captain himself!
During his rookie season in 1996, Jeter established the Turn 2 Foundation to promote healthy lifestyles among youth. The name “Turn 2” is symbolic of the dramatic double play made by infielders during a game. It also represents Jeter’s wish to promote healthy lifestyles among young people and enable them to “Turn 2” his Foundation for guidance and the much needed help to avoid drugs and alcohol.
Many of Jeter’s former teammates joined the hundreds of celebrity guests, sponsors and other supporters for the Turn 2 Foundation’s marquee annual event. Hoda Kotb, co-host on the TODAY show, served as the evening’s emcee and Angie Martinez, Andrew McCutchen and Dave Winfield took part in a panel on The Players’ Tribune. Following the discussion, NE-YO gave an electric musical performance.
The event raised more than $1.4 million for the organization’s youth initiatives. To learn more about the Turn 2 Foundation, check out their website.
