A Guide for Better Relaxation

A Guide for Better Relaxation

Finding time to relax is easier said than done. Not only can it be difficult to find the right time and private space to fully relax, but a lot of people also struggle with the idea of relaxation altogether. It can be hard to switch off a busy mind and a tired body, especially for those people who find it difficult to sit and do nothing.

Here is a guide to help you find a better relationship with your own self-care and relaxation techniques:

1. Practice Meditation.

If you’ve never tried meditation before, then it can seem a very daunting prospect. Or, you may simply feel that meditation isn’t for you. However, you aren’t going to know until you try it. Meditation doesn’t have to seem intimidating, and neither do you have to do it extensively. It could be as simple as 60 seconds spent sitting in a comfortable chair, concentrating on your breathing and nothing else. Meditation is a great way to relieve stress and prevent your busy mind from wandering.

2. Find Your Own Way to De-Stress.

Everyone will have their own ideas and methods for relieving stress, and there is no right or wrong answer. You need to take the time to understand what works best for you. If you already have your stress-relief methods in place, you then need to think about how to best implement them and enjoy them in the best way. It could be mindfully enjoying a quality cigar from the Cigar Cutter Expert whilst appreciating the view from your garden. It could be cooking your favorite meal and mindfully eating it. It might be lighting your favorite scented candles around the bath.

However you choose to de-stress, be sure to do it in a mindful and unhurried way, so that you can enjoy the best experience with it.

3. Take Time Out.

If you need to set time aside which is designated for relaxation, this is okay too. It may be difficult to find time to relax spontaneously, especially if you have a busy working schedule or an even busier household.

Planning in advance for time you’ve set aside to relax is a good practice. This could be a day off where you’re planning to do nothing but indulge in your own self-care. It could be a solo vacation you have booked where you’re planning on only doing those activities which help you to feel relaxed and at ease.

4. Choose Activities That Require You to Concentrate.

If you’re struggling for inspiration for activities you can try to help you relax, think about those which will keep your mind and hands focused. Creative hobbies, such as painting or craft work, are great for relaxation, because you’re concentrating on what you’re doing in the moment, and not thinking about your usual routine.

5. Set the Scene.

You’re not going to be able to relax if your environment isn’t suited for it. You can’t hope to relax in your home office, for example, if it reminds you of work, nor can you relax in a busy living space at home which is loud or full of activity. Set up your own relaxation space, whether it’s a garden retreat, a spare room or even just a corner of a certain space at home. Fill this spot with all those things which help you to relax and feel comfortable. Think about soft furnishings, welcoming scents, and pleasant things to surround yourself with.
