André Leon Talley at NJPAC’s Annual Spring Luncheon

On May 7, #HipNJ‘s most stylish women attended the Women’s Association of NJPAC’s Annual Spring Luncheon & Auction featuring André Leon Talley.

“The First Tuesday in May” fete drew over 560 attendees who were eager to salute the Women’s Association 25 years of service and $52 million raised for arts education. Headed by event Co-Chairs, Deborah Q. Belfatto and Faith Taylor, the WA’s tradition of success continued with $280,000 raised.

As guests approached the Prudential Center stage, they were greeted with a dazzling display of cherry blossoms (a hallmark of Newark!) and a plated lunch of fresh spring specialties.

The awe-inspiring moments didn’t stop there. In between performances and networking, hearts were warmed by the words of Savion Glover, NJPAC’s Dance Advisor, who shared stories about his mother Yvette, recipient of the Ronnie Goldberg Award.

The mood then turned electric when the day’s featured guest, Vogue fashionista and industry scribe André Leon Talley, took the stage. He talked about growing up in the segregated South and how he ascended in the fashion industry, working alongside the likes of Diana Vreeland, Andy Warhol and Anna Wintour. Afterward, he took photos with his adoring fans.

Talley spoke to #HipNJ‘s Lisa Marie Latino about his appreciation for the WA’s mission.

“I’m very grateful to be here for the 25th annual spring luncheon and auction. I think it’s for a very, very worthy cause. Everything here is very calm and elegant…everything in life should be that way.”
