HipNJ: #TBT: Prelude to a Cure

This Thursday we’re throwing it back to the Prelude to a Cure Cancer Event at the Mount Holleran Towne Tavern in Parsippany-Troy Hills where #HipNJ’s very own Gina Cerniglia went behind the scenes to speak with none other than founder Claire Mattern along with actors Vincent Pastore and Louis Vanaria!

Claire tells #HipNJ The Prelude to a Cure Cancer event is to benefit lung cancer and the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She says it was wonderful to start such an amazing event for such a good cause. Claire’s sister, Linda, died of lung cancer at the age of 28. She tells #HipNJ there are not enough research dollars for lung cancer and Claire really wants to make a difference. There is a stigma attached to lung cancer that if you have the disease it’s because you chose to smoke and caused it yourself; this is not necessarily true.

#HipNJ was also given the honor to speak with actor Vincent Pastore, Bug Pussy” of The Sopranos. He says he is here to support the cause and to make people more aware of what it’s all about. He also shared with us that people do still call him “Big Pussy” to this day!

Actor “Crazy Mario” of A Bronx Tale, Louis Vanaria, also allowed us to speak with him at this event. He is here in support of Claire’s sister as well and his friends invited him to come along to the event. Louis tells #HipNJ that he will be reoccurring on CBS’s hit television series Person’s of Interest!

One woman at the event tells us “people have come out to lend a helping hand and are doing it because its a good thing to do”. It’s really great to see #HipNJ supporting such a great cause! For more information on this event visit www.PreludeToACure.org!

#HipNJ: Concourse for the Kids

#HipNJ is at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster for the Concourse for the Kids, a great event benefiting the Eric Trump Foundation!

Head of the event  is CEO of HudsonMOD Magazine, Jason Lembo who shares with #HipNJ that there is nothing better than to bring high end cars and the kids to have a great family day! It was a beautiful day and a lot of money was raised for a great charity!

Many people attending the event, like Michael Plante of Tiffany & Co. not only wanted to immerse in the New Jersey market, but are fond of the Eric Trump Foundation and it’s ties to St Jude Children’s Hospital.

Many well known socialites attended Concourse for the Kids from all over #HipNJ! Jonathan Cheban founder of TheDishh.com and member of the Trump National Golf Club felt it was a great day to come out and support Eric Trump’s Charity. For Nicole Napolitano of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, anything to do with children she wants to be a part of. She’s all about giving back.

Other familiar faces of #HipNJ attending the event included Vanessa DeLeon of HudsonMOD, Rino Aprea the co-owner of Angelo’s of Mullberry Street, musician Kenny Simmons, and California Closet’s Melanie Statlander. All were so excited and happy to be supporting such an amazing cause!

#HipNJ even had the pleasure of speaking with founder Eric Trump himself who shared that he is happy to be raising money for the terminally ill children of St Jude’s . These children are going through some of the worst and most life threatening illnesses and he wants to do everything he can to help. St Jude’s has the best researchers in the world and they are on the cutting edge of cancer research.

When the Eric Trump Foundation linked up with St Jude Children’s Hospital they knew right away they wanted to support them. “They are the best in the world at what they do” Eric says,  and “they do an amazing job”.

#HipNJ Cares: The CANswer Project

#HipNJ’s Sam Selvaggio is in Kettleworth where the Burb Neighborhood Fair has gathered over forty local vendors in support of the CANswer Project!

Stefania Colosimo, chairwoman of the CANswer Project, has recently lost her mom to lung cancer. In honor of her mother and other’s fighting the horrific disease, local vendors gather to sponsor local charity at this event.

The CANswer Project’s mission is to host fundraisers focused around life! Everyone at the event is a local business and this is great in helping promote the local community!

One local business is “not your grandma’s antique shop”. Garret Maney IV, owner of Antique Antics, closed shop just for the event! Now that’s dedication. Another local owner, Paul Mecca, owner of Patricia & Paul Artisans of Fine Oils and Balsamics, has a stand for locals to sample all of his great entities. He even donates 10% of all proceeds to the CANswer Project!

To check out more about this event and see what other great things this local community is doing for the CANswer Project check out their website! www.TheCanswerProject.org
