Hip New Jersey sits with the state’s up-and-comers before they hit the mainstream. We’ll find out what motivates them on their journey to the top!

Master Phil Ross, “The Kettlebell King”

A “kettlebell” may not look like much, but it is a valuable key that unlocks your mind, body and soul’s optimal potential.

#HipNJ got a chance to have a personal workout session with one of only eight masters of kettlebell training in the world, Master Phil Ross

Master Ross has been training all walks of life for 38 years- from UFC fighters, NFL athletes and celebrities, to children, law enforcement officials and those who are looking to improve their health.

Personally, he is in a class all on his own; at almost 52 years old, he has the stamina and physique of a 25-year-old.  His bountiful passion and charming personality helps clients get through their grueling workouts at his studio in Ho Ho Kus.

Master Ross- who is also a Master RKC, bodyweight specialist and 8th Degree Black Belt- was introduced to kettlebells by former UFC champion Frank Shamrock.  He proceeded to learn everything he could about these unique objects.

He has turned his unparalleled kettlebell knowledge into a vast library.  The Kettlebell Workout Library is a culmination of more than 6 years of Kettlebell Based workouts designed by Master Ross. Strength, explosive power, balance, flexibility, durability, longevity and cardiovascular endurance are all addressed.  The 20-hour DVD Compilation consists of 104 Kettlebell-based workouts and a 140 page full color manual.  You can find more information here.

Christina Scaglione of “Jersey Shore Massacre”

West Orange, New Jersey is known for their famous residents- Ian Ziering, Scott Wolf, and Mike Pitt, just to name a few.

Now you can add another name to the list- actress Christina Scaglione, star of the new movie “Jersey Shore Massacre“. Christina stopped by the #HipNJ Studios to talk with Lisa Marie Latino about her role and more!

“Jersey Shore Massacre” is horror comedy loosely based on the reality TV series “Jersey Shore”, and is executive-produced by one of the show’s stars, Jenni “JWoww” Farley.

After losing their Seaside Heights beach rental, “Teresa” and her girlfriends wind up in the Pine Barrens.   Unbeknownst to the group, a mentally deranged killer is out for their blood.  Christina plays “GiGi”, the innocent one of the group who “carries around a stuffed animal and is super-involved with her boyfriend.”

JSM is Christina’s first feature, and she enjoyed every aspect of the experience.  “Everything from the amazing crew to the red carpet experience was a dream come true.”

Christina isn’t the only talented Scaglione-  her brother, Dominic, played Frankie Valli in Broadway’s Jersey Boys!

“Jersey Shore Massacre” is available on iTunes, Amazon, and other online retailers.  You can also view on-demand: Comcast, Time Warner, Cablevision, Direct TV, and Dish Network.

Fashion Swain

If you are looking for the latest trends in fashion, the hot blog Fashion Swain is a must-visit!

#HipNJ’s Kelly Dillon chatted with the creator of Fashion Swain, Cara Zamorski.  They spoke about the world of blogging, her fashion idols, great shopping spots in New Jersey and more.

Cara explained how she came up with the catchy name of her website:  “I was thinking about how confident I feel when I have a great new outfit on, and it compares to the butterflies of dating someone new.  “Swain” means male lover, so it was a perfect fit for my blog- I feel like I’m having a fling with fashion!”

Fashion Swain’s “Outfit of the Day” posts have been among the sites’ most popular reads.  “Guest Flings”, where followers can submit their own photos of their favorite looks, is a huge hit as well.

Her fashion inspirations include the Kardashians and E! host Giuliana Rancic, just to name a few.

What are Cara’s favorite places to shop in #HipNJ?  “The boutiques are my favorite, and there are so many hidden gems across the state.  My favorite mall store is Express.”
