#HipNJ celebs such as Emmy Award winner Armand Assante and Jersey Boys Broadway star Dominic Scaglione, Jr. were among the 2,000+ spectators that were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime automobile parade of over 40 rides.
#HipNJ’s Peter Falzo went one-on-one with some of the big players from the event, including Fresco owner Franco Porporino, Jr. about his desire to stop bullying. Editor-in-Chief of Hudson MOD, Ty Sawyer, talked about how much of a privilege it was to be able to give back to the community in such a “hip” way.
Observers had a chance to further help the cause by purchasing a ‘Stop Hate’ design product. The designer, Karma for a Cure, gives 10% of the proceeds for whichever cause (in this case, bullying) to the charity it supports. Founder Margaux Minutolo filled #HipNJ in on the amazing story behind her brand.
#HipNJ’s Gina Cerniglia chatted with Paterson Falls Film Festival Creative Director, Tazio Ruffilo, about bringing attention to the arts of Paterson.
“There is untapped talent in New Jersey, especially here in Paterson, and I wanted to create an outlet to showcase that,” explained Taz.
One of the standout films from last year’s fest was “Jigsaw”, written and directed by recently-retired Montclair State University professor Suzanne Trauth. “Jigsaw” is about a middle-aged women that moves to Las Vegas to discover her purpose in life, and Suzanne incorporated her love of jigsaw puzzles into the plot. #HipNJ spoke to Suzanne about her award-nominated short.
“Seeing my film on the big screen was indescribable,” Suzanne gushed.
For this year’s event, a part of the proceeds will go to local non-profit organizations that seek to benefit the arts in Paterson.

A buzz filled the air as Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton talked the latest sports news, but not without the occasional interruption from the raucous crowd. The interaction with the hosts provided them with a once-and-a-lifetime chance to get to know their favorite morning show personalities.
Attendees were treated to a special performance from the Gin Blossoms, who performed some of their most famous hits such as “Hey Jealousy.” But the surprise of the morning was an appearance from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Governor Christie, a diehard fan of the show, came to show his support for his long- time friends. In between sports chit-chat, he promoted the rebuilt Jersey Shore, urging listeners to check out the new and improved Garden State beaches communities.
Numerous companies sponsored the “Kick Off to Summer” including 888 Poker, the first legal online gaming website in New Jersey.
