Carlos Ruiz of Cocktails by C returned to the #HipNJ studio to show Lisa Marie Latino how to prepare a “special” drink for New Year’s.
Ruiz prepared a Love-at-First-Sip cocktail, a drink he made the night he met his wife. The drink is usually made with tequila, but the one he prepared in the studio was made with agave spirit. The difference between the agave and tequila is the location in which it is made.
The other ingredients were pomegranate juice, lime juice, sugar and champagne.
Ruiz started with ¾ of an ounce of freshly-squeeze lime juice.“I don’t like the bottle juice or anything you can buy at the store” Ruiz said. “I don’t care if it says ‘organic’ on there. You need fresh, fresh, fresh lime juice.”
After that, he added an ounce of pomegranate juice, half an ounce of sugar and 1 ½ ounce of agave. He added some ice to the shaker before shaking it. He used a strainer to pour the drink into a glass without getting any ice fragments in it; then he added some champagne to give it a bubbly feel. Once the drink was finished, he placed a small grapefruit garnish on the glass rim.
