#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sits down with Dan Bassini, an amazingly talented fashion photographer.
Bassini, who is originally from Central New Jersey, now lives in New York where he captures New York Fashion week and various industry events in his book series, “No Invite.” Dan came up with this clever title through his unique technique of seeking out all of the events where the fashion crowd is. He has no invite, but finds his way in.
When Dan first arrived in New York four years ago, he made his way into parties, pop-up shops, art events and more…and conquered his fear of asking strangers to take their picture. Dan uses a small film camera that can fit in his pocket, which allows him to have a more intimate relationship with his muse without a huge lens in their face.
Another plus is that guests don’t view Dan as annoying paparazzi with a large camera, he just blends right in. Dan’s goal, through this series, is to just get his work out there. His ultimate goal would be to shoot for a magazine one day.
Aside from photography, Dan also has a podcast with his friend titled, “Have a Nice Life,” available on multiple streaming platforms. Dan is a freelance artist and his friend Erika is a corporate one, and together they chat about how “two NYC creatives try to figure out how to have a nice life…jaded by subculture, corrupted by the internet and always tired.”
You can follow Dan on Instagram, Twitter, and Faceboook for more and his work can be purchased on his website.
