Pequannock, New Jersey-born Derek Jeter has been dazzling New York Yankees fans for almost 20 years, and his accomplishments off the field have been just as impressive.
Since the launch of his Turn 2 Foundation in 1996, the charity has awarded more than $19 million in grants to promote healthy lifestyles for thousands of children.
#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino recently attended Turn 2’s 18th Annual Gala Dinner at the Sheraton New York Times Square in New York City, which raised over one million dollars for their various programs. Derek’s Yankee teammates (like CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner), Hollywood celebrities (Seth Meyers) and some Jersey staples (Joe Piscopo and Sampson Davis) came out to support The Captain. Guests were also treated to a special performance by international recording artist Robin Thicke.
On the red carpet, Lisa Marie chatted with Derek, his former manager Joe Torre, and former teammate Tino Martinez. We also spoke with Senior VP of Marketing for the New York Yankees, Deborah Tymon (who was awarded with the 2014 Turn 2 MVP award) and MLB Network‘s Harold Reynolds.
