Shawna DiMattina of DiMattina Design came to the #HipNJ studio to give Lisa Marie Latino some advice on how to decorate for a New Year’s Eve party and for the New Year.
DiMattina advises people who are interested in changing their houses’ interior design to go shopping and find items they like, to purchase anything they like. She doesn’t want people to feel discouraged if they find two items that look like they don’t go together; she doesn’t want them to worry about clashing.
“Even though they don’t all match,” DiMattina said, “eventually you’ll start building your collection and everything will go because you love it, and you’ll start mixing it together.”
DiMattina offered the same advice to party hosts. She suggested blending fancy decorations and casual decorations together.
“You can mix it up,” DiMattina said. “Not everything has to be so dressy and formal.”
The suggestions she made for party decorating – the pieces she brought into the studio – included a pine garland, a non-holiday-specific tablecloth and flowers.
“I love working with local, neighborhood florists,” DiMattina said.
The DiMattina Design website is currently under construction and won’t be up and running until late 2019. Until then, follow DiMattina Design on Facebook and Instagram .
