As the coronavirus pandemic upends daily life, Americans are seeking ways to remain calm and positive. One strategist at self-help media network “Change Your Attitude, Change Your Life,” is fighting off panic with hypnosis.
Mary Beth Battaglia is a certified clinical hypnosis and sound practitioner, and the author of “Transformation Through Hypnosis: Relax, Clear Your Mind & Step Into Your Power.” She is also an advocate for mindfulness, a form of meditation that involves focusing on the present moment.
Battaglia lives in Paramus, in the region of New Jersey most hard-hit by coronavirus. She says that seeing her friends and neighbors affected by such stress has reaffirmed for her the importance of staying grounded.
By making meditation more accessible, Battaglia hopes to give her community a way to find peace and recharge. That’s why she’s conducting free sessions over Zoom, at 7:30am and at 6:30pm EST. The morning session is a quick 15 minutes, while evening sessions last about a half-hour.
Battaglia says that both sessions center around clearing the mind of distractions and worries, and that evening sessions use sound therapy to help patients relax. Each session ends with a moment for thinking positive thoughts and remembering things to be grateful for.
Sessions are held on weekdays, with plans to continue until May 15th.
