#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sat with Carina Trenka, assistant director for Go4TheGoal, to discuss the amazing foundation.
Go4TheGoal is a pediatric cancer program started in 2006. Their mission is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes.
The foundation came to be when director Beth and her husband’s oldest child was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. While they were at the hospital, they met so many other children and families that were going through so many financial difficulties, “they decided to start Go4TheGoal in order to help spread resources and awareness,” Trenka explains.
Every cancer foundation’s ultimate goal is finding cures for cancers, but this charity recognizes that those cures are very far out. So, they focus on the 15,000 children diagnosed this year in our country. “We put most of our resources into providing the financial assistance, granting special wishes, and supporting hospital programs that help families get through their battle with less financial and emotional stress.”
Trenka urges us to get involved by spreading awareness. If everybody just pitched in a couple dollars, that’s a lot of money when spread throughout the community.
