Lauren Ohl and Jeri Freeman met when their kids were younger and their sons became friends. They were both looking for a “next step” in life. They decided to start a dessert business that leveraged their interests and skill sets. They created their very own dessert category called “Stacks,” and now run their company Stack Happy Sweets. They live in Montville, New Jersey, and today they shared their Local Love with HipNewJersey.com!

What is your favorite local place to do business?
The Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange has an annual event called Brew at the Zoo, where more than 50 microbreweries in NJ set up tables and provide samples. We set up a vendor table and sell our product to 1000s of happy, hungry drunk people! How’s that for a target market!
What is your favorite New Jersey downtown district?
Morristown. Love the Green and all the restaurants and shops in the surrounding area.
What is your favorite New Jersey-based service business (photographer, etc.)?
Nomad Oil, a mobile oil change service! Easy to book an appointment online, reliable service and your car never has to leave your driveway or parking lot.
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
A good portion of our business has been from business to business, and since many businesses are struggling and/or not in the office, we’ve seen fewer gift boxes being sent for the purpose of saying “welcome aboard” or “thanks for your business.” Because there are no large events taking place, we are not making many party favors and event giveaways. But we are hearing of people slowly making their way back into the office and events being rescheduled so we are keeping our heads up and fingers crossed! Luckily we can ship gift boxes anywhere in the US, and that has kept us going.
