Nubia DuVall Wilson is the owner of a boutique public relations and marketing firm based out of South Orange, New Jersey. Today, she shared her Local Love with HipNewJersey.com!
What is your favorite local restaurant?
In South Orange, I love Jackie and Son. They offer fresh mediterranean cuisine for breakfast and lunch in a laid-back, comfy atmosphere. For high-end date night dinners, I love French restaurant Bistro D’Azur, which recently opened. Both of these establishments are offering carry-out only currently. Also, for a cup of tea and vegan wrap, I go to Elitist Cafe, which is mother-daughter owned and run.
What is your favorite local boutique?
Fitting Room Gala off South Orange Avenue offers a wonderful, intimate and customized shopping experience for women who like to wear fashion finds that aren’t seen everywhere. The owner is a woman and a mother to an adorable little boy who is often hanging out in the store while we all shop. She has statement outfits, cocktail dresses, jewelry, purses and shoes. She will even offer you a cocktail while shopping!
What is your favorite salon or spa?
I go to Yoni Kreger Salon in South Orange because they focus on hair care as well as making us look fabulous. In addition to the owner, Yoni, stylists Robyn, Kimmie, and Terrell do a great job making sure my hair (and my daughter’s hair) is healthy!
What is your favorite local health and wellness center?
Both SlowBurn Personal Training Studio in Montclair and D&I Fitness in South Orange are my go-tos for one-on-one personal training fitness that is customized to my needs and WORKS to keep me strong and fit. I also love the spiritual intuitive guidance and offerings by Maplewood-based Judie Hurtado.
Where is your favorite local place for home decor?
I go to the SOMA (South Orange/Maplewood) General Store Cooperative that now has a storefront on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood. They have home goods, toys, clothes and decor accessories throughout the year.
Where is your favorite local daytime hangout?
I love getting cocktails and dinner at The Cassidy Bar + Kitchen in Maplewood or drinks at The Fox and Falcon and its basement bar The Snug in South Orange. They have Jerk Chicken wings that are to die for and other great lunch options, plus a fireplace to sit next to in the colder months.
What is your favorite “Made in Jersey” product?
Other than my innovative client and plant-based anitbacterial/antiviral brand PlaneAire Travel Mist, my other favorite NJ-made brand is NBI all natural, created by my former client and friend Susan Randall. The beauty brand uses Jamaican black castor oil in its skin and hair products and they work like magic. After using the skin oil on my toddler son who has eczema, his skin cleared up within a month–nothing else worked for him!
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
I own a boutique public relations and marketing firm called Cielo Consulting, which focuses on supporting people, places and products in the lifestyle space. Unfortunately, some of our clients were forced to close because of COVID-19, and we are praying that they will be able to survive when this storm is over. We remain flexible and open to helping those who need PR, marketing or advertising services even on a consulting level as we realize some businesses might just need an hour or two from us to discuss best practices vs. bringing us on for a full monthly PR campaign.
