We had a visit from one of our favorite people at our coworking space Industrious at The Mall at Short Hills: Nicole Donlon from Luxury Love Consignment! They have some of the most fantastic luxury items we’ve seen, and we sat down to ask Nicole all about how she got started.
Nicole says she started Luxury Love Consignment because she loved finding hidden gems that you can’t find anywhere else. They sell luxury handbags, jewelry, shoes, and clothes from brands like Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Everything is new or gently used and priced far below retail prices, so you can score an amazing item for a great deal.
Nicole is also a nurse, and when the pandemic hit and the economy suffered, she had to go back to nursing to help support her family. She now juggles nursing in the morning and nights, managing her store in the afternoons, and being a mom to 2 boys in between.
How To Consign
Nicole shared some of the beautiful luxury items she offers in her store and told us how she got them. Her consignors (people who bring their luxury items to her store so Nicole can sell them on their behalf) usually have beautiful items that they’ve only used a few times, and they want to get some of their money back.
Customers can either bring their items into the store or send Nicole a picture. Then Nicole researches the item, determining how much other resellers are selling it for, and examines the condition of the item. The customer can then get 70% of the sale of that item.
Luxury For Less
Nicole showed us a few items, such as Carrie Bradshaw’s famous Manolo Blahnik heels (retail: $1000+; less than $600 consignment) and a Chanel boy bag (retail: $5,000-$7,000; under $4,000 consignment). Nicole especially loves selling Chanel because it’s so timeless, and we agree: having something iconic and high-end makes you feel good and it’s an investment for a fraction of the cost.
