The contest, which honors New Jersey’s mom-owned businesses, received over 200 entries. The final Mompreneur of the Year winner is also a familiar face here at Hip New Jersey!
Deanna Taylor-Heacock is the founder of Good Bottle Refill Shop in Maplewood, NJ. A mother of two, Taylor-Heacock’s is the first ever zero-waste refill shop in the Garden State. She says she was inspired to found her shop after having an epiphany about how much plastic an average household wastes.
“I had an ‘a-ha moment’ when I was…looking at all the plastic bottles I was buying and realized I only needed the liquid inside,” said Taylor-Heacock in an interview with New Jersey Family. “There was absolutely no reason for us to be throwing away all these bottles…since they never break down.”
Good Bottle Refill Shop specializes in soaps, detergents, and other self- and household-cleaning products. Customers looking to cut down on their plastic use can bring their own containers or buy them from Good Bottle, then pay by the ounce for their purchases. They also carry smaller products sans-plastic, like toothpaste tablets and shampoo bars.
Because they sell cleaning and hygiene products, Good Bottle Refill Shop is an essential business during the COVID-19 crisis. They are still open, and their products are available for delivery and curbside pick-up.
