Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott is putting her thing down, flipping and reversing it back to the VMA stage this month!
Elliott, will be heading to the 2019 MTV Video Music awards, hosted in Newark, NJ to receive this year’s Michael Jackson’s Video Vanguard Award. This means, like her forerunners, Elliott will be performing at the ceremony, the stage she hasn’t stepped foot on since 2003.
“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” states, Bruce Gillmer, who is the head of Music Talent at Viacom, MTV’s parent company, “her creative vision across production, performance, and song writing in unmatched.”
For promotion, the 48-year-old rapper will be the center of the Pepsi and MTV sponsored pop-event in New York City, the weekend prior to the awards show. The set-up, named “MTV & Pepsi Celebrate the Museum of Missy Elliott” will give visiting fans a look at her music, performances and iconic costumes from over the years. Also, the brand will celebrate the “Get Ur Freak On” singer’s legacy with celebrity and fan tributes leading up to her performance! The location of the pop-up will soon be announced closer to the ceremony’s date.
Recently, Elliott became the first female rapper to be indicted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music.
The MTV VMAs will be hosted live from Prudential Center on Monday, August 26th at 8pm ET. In the meantime, you’re just going to have to listen to Super Dupa Fly on repeat until she graces the stage!
