#HipNJ’s Peter Falzo got an exclusive look at one of #HipNJ‘s hottest restaurants, Bloomfield’s Orange Squirrel!
Owner and executive chef Francesco Palmieri wanted to bring his unique vision to his hometown. While the concept of “farm to table” is now all the rage, Chef Frank has been growing his own products since his restaurant opened six years ago.
“We’re totally outside the box,” Chef explained.
Chef and Peter toasted their interview with a Pisco Sour, made with pisco liquor, syrup, egg white and lime juice. Then it was time to switch to the kitchen, where Chef whipped up some fresh pasta pomodoro.
Peter gave his dish two thumbs up: “Nice al dente, not saturated in sauce, great bite.”
To end their time together, Chef made a “Frailey’s”, a homemade twist on Bailey’s. It’s a luxurious, after-dinner “liquid snack” that they are known for.
Besides being a whiz in the kitchen, Chef Frank also has an eye for design. He personally designed the 50 seat restaurant which features a hand-crafted bar with a “floating” limestone top. Other custom decorative accents include Italian tiles, lighting and furniture.
