Rising Star Gina Royale

HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sat with Gina Royale, one of the Garden State’s rising stars on the music scene, to discuss her music.

Royale started her first EP, Heir, when she was a senior in high school, and released it June 2015. Then, she went to William Paterson and began work on her second EP titled Brain Waves, which was released June of this year.

Royale describes her music as pop contemporary. She recalls a moment after a performance when someone said to her, “You sound like an edgier Taylor Swift.”

The singer writes all of her own music, from the melody, lyrics, and composition. She writes about things going on in her own life, as well as prominent social issues like eating disorders, racism, and sexual abuse.

Battle Cry,” an anthemic song about a falling out with a friend, stands out on the new EP as an empowering reminder to stay strong and to surround yourself with positivity.

Be sure to follow #HipNJ on social media for details on how to enter our giveaway to win Gina’s latest EP, Brain Waves!

We asked Gina to sing us out, and she happily obliged. Be sure to watch the video above to hear her powerful “Battle Cry.”

To learn more about Gina Royale, visit her website, and head over to iTunes to purchase her music.
