Rockaway’s Grand Opening of Party City was a Huge Success

Rockaway’s Grand Opening of Party City was a Huge Success

Lisa Marie Latino of #HipNJ recently spoke with Amy Block – Party City’s senior manager of partnership marketing – at the grand opening of Rockaway’s new Party City. They discussed all the costumes available so people can start preparing for Halloween!

Lisa Marie Latino: So, tell me what we’re doing here today.

Amy Block: So, we are here at the grand opening of our new Rockaway Party City. It’s right by our corporate headquarters, and it’s a huge store with everything you could want for birthdays, Halloween, any of your celebrations. We got it all.

LML: What makes the store different than all the other Party City’s in New Jersey?

AB: This is one of our largest stores with a brand-new footprint, all new store layout … Lots of interactive opportunities here to engage with, like animatronics that jump out at you. Today, we have Batman here with his Batmobile – straight from California from our friends at Warner Brothers – so we’re super excited about that. We have Z-100 here.

LML: Z-100, Danielle Monaro.

AB: Yup, we’re glad to have her. We have lots of giveaways, cotton candy and other concessions provided by Kazzam by Party City, where you can rent any kind of entertainment, party entertainment for your party at home.

LML: So, let’s talk about trends. You were talking to me about a lot of things, but animatronics it’s called? What’s that?

AB: Animatronics are Halloween décor that jump out at you, light up, make sounds – super spooky. People love it. Every year we add to our assortment. We have a huge assortment of animatronics right now with It: Chapter Two being some of our spookiest, so Pennywise, extra creepy this year.

LML: Awesome. And then DIY, you were talking about.

AB: DIY’s a really big trend. A lot of people like to make their own mash-up, so anything you need, any accessories to make it your own and combine and create your own character.

LML: Absolutely. So, tell me, um, what are the trending costumes that you’re seeing so far this season?

AB: For kids, Descendants is superhot for girls. Girls are also loving superheroes, so we have Captain Marvel for kids and adults. Another big trend, always [Disney] Princesses.

LML: So, what about for little boys?

AB: So, for little boys, superheroes – of course – are really popular. We have every look from DC and Marvel. For toddlers all the way up to bigger kids. We have all of them.

LML: You know what’s really funny to me? These blow-up ones. Right?

AB: This is another trend, too. Inflatable costumes are really popular. They’re super fun. They make a huge statement. Kids love wearing those characters.

LML: Great. And what about for the adults?

AB: So, for the adults – and really from a family perspective, because it’s so easy to put together a look for your whole family – always the career costumes. Even for kids, too, love being police officers and things like that. You can put together a look careers for your whole family, but all the superheroes come in kids and adults. You could have a whole superhero family whether you’re Marvel or DC fans.

LML: Very cool. Very, very cool. I feel like Halloween keeps growing and growing every year. Why do you think that is?

AB: Yeah, I think it’s just a time for people to really be able to be who they want to be and express themselves in whatever way they want, and we really make that possible so that whatever you can dream up, we can help you build it and become it.

LML: I do have a business question. How does Party City keep up with just buying all this stuff online?

AB: We have an e-com site, and we have buy-online, pick-up in-store, which is really helpful for people who want it fast but still want that store experience.
