#HipNJ spoke with Ellen Eppie, founder and chief curator of Scooch A Mi Boutique, about their October 26th grand opening parties and her inspiration for opening the boutique.
Scooch A Mi is an eco-friendly and socially-conscious boutique selling jewelry, accessories, and gifts, located in the heart of downtown Chatham.
The goal of Scooch A Mi is to provide distinctive, quality items at the best possible price. The boutique is filled with treasures from local, national and international artists and artisans. Eppie says that she will never sell anything that she wouldn’t buy herself. “I need to believe in it completely.”
Opening events will support local anti-bullying charity Mallory’s Army, which was founded after Mallory Rose Grossman, 12, of Rockaway, took her own life because of horrific bullying. “Having two daughters, this really resonated with me,” Eppie says. “My mission is to share mindful kindness and bring out the individuality of each person.”
Eppie is most excited to showcase the work of the featured artists and artisans. “I love that in many cases, I am the first venue where some of these artists will be able to display their work,” she says. “It is a privilege to be able to get their work out there.”
On Ocotber 26th, Scooch A Mi will host a Brunch Party from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and a Grand Opening Event from 7 pm to 9 pm. Guests can expect giveaways, prizes, food, and wine. “I want the boutique to be a community place,” Eppie states. RSVP to [email protected], or simply walk through the doors the day of the event.
