Whenever I see anyone in the armed forces out at a restaurant or getting coffee, I honestly get choked up, I say thank you for their service and buy them their coffee/meal. I feel like it means something, it says to them that they do make a difference and those of us at home care. My grandfather served in WW2 and every year he would stand outside the supermarket selling little red poppies to raise funds for veterans. He passed in 1991 and every year since then I buy out whatever the veteran has at my local store. Think about buying some as you go and buy your groceries. This year, let’s all be grateful that there are brave men and women that stand up for our freedoms. Happy Memorial Day!

Blue Barn Kitchen: Mommy Mocktail

On this Mother’s Day, I reflect on the kind of mom I am, I have great mommy moments and BAD ones too. PM me for those stories…..

Either way according to Wikipedia – “Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.”

Now that the kids are in the double digits, I am aware of the limited time I have left before they leave for college. The influence I have on them has not only to shape their lives but has shaped my own. I don’t know what kind of women I would be without those smelly kids. Yes! They make me crazy, the best is when the big one’s hormones are raging ( wow, I love teenagers) and I’m being yelled at while being laid on and asked to scratch his back with only my nails. 

I feel them trying to pull away while holding on tight. OMG, I’m getting choked up just writing this. I want to keep them young but at the same time, I know that they have to live and grow. Boy, it’s so hard to imagine what life will be like when they really are out on their own.

But for now, I will watch their (awful) TV shows and listen to every moment they want to share. No more handmade cards but still moments of love and admiration. I do have to say that I still have flashes of their toddler days, the days where they only wanted me and a baggie of goldfish. I am happy those days are over but still miss their little fat chubby hands holding mine. xoxo-B

Violet Beauregarde


  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 3 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 4-6 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 cups organic, no sugar added blueberry juice
  • 1 cup ice
  • Seltzer, to taste
  • Fresh blueberries for garnish

Muddle mint in the bottom of a pitcher. Add lime juice, maple syrup, blueberry juice, and ice. Stir until well combined and strain into glasses. 

Top off each drink with seltzer and garnish with floating fresh blueberries.

St. Patrick’s Day Clean Cocktails with Beth Nydick

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Today, #HipNJ’s Maria Falzo  welcomes back Blue Barn Kitchen founder, Beth Nydick.  This time, the ladies are mixing up some fabulous cocktails to enjoy on Saint Patrick’s Day!

Lucky for us, Beth is sharing  some of her holistically crafted cocktails from her book Clean Cocktails: Righteous recipes for the Modern Mixologist. Say good-bye to those nasty hang-overs and hello to delicious beverages with fresh juice! These clean cocktails are made from herbs, spices, fruits and vegetable juices to keep you hydrated and having fun. 

Her book also feature mock-tail recipes, so if you  want to feel festive without the booze, Beth has got you covered!

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Beth is going to show us how to make a gorgeous green drink: Coconut Cucumber Margarita! Using cucumber as the base, coconut syrup to sweeten, a dash of lime and some tequila for a little fun. This sweet and tangy drink will keep you having fun all night and still refreshed in the morning.
