#VeganDay 5 of NJ’s Best Vegan Restaurants

Hey #HipNJ! Today is #VeganDay! To celebrate, let’s take a look at five of the yummiest vegan restaurants in the area!

1.  Veganized, New Brunswick

Located in the heart of New Brunswick, this vegan eatery is the bomb-diggity! Highlights of the menu include their RAWzagna (gluten-free raw zucchini pasta, marinated mushrooms, fresh tomato, nut cheese, sundried tomato puree, pesto) and the BBQ Skewers (grilled seitan vegetable BBQ skewers, herbed white bean sauce, saffron rice, crusted oyster mushrooms with maple dijon). The undisputed fan favorite is the mackin’ cheese pictured above. It looks so good!

2.  Seed to Sprout, Fair Haven & Avon-by-the-Sea

This down-the-shore vegan joint is the real deal. It offers breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner, teaches cooking classes, and operates a bakery located in Wanamassa. They offer a delicious Maui Wowie smoothie (house-made cashew milk, strawberries, mango, banana, coconut, and fresh tumeric) and a Bacon Cheddar Melt (seared marinated tempeh, caramelized onion, coconut bacon, cashew sauce, riddled on a millet-flax bread). 3. Heart Beet Kitchen, Westmont

A charming, farmhouse-inspired eatery, Heart Beet Kitchen has a wide range of tasty foods such zucchini noodles with eggplant meatballs or spicy Buffalo cauliflower sandwich on a gluten-free bun. They also offers some tasty deserts such as a chocolate chip dough bar with almond butter, a pumpkin pie, and a matcha chai. The highly-acclaimed Heart Beet Burger is pictured above. Looks tasty!

4. Papa Ganache, Matawan

Vegan baked goods have never sounded better at Papa Ganache, a vegan/gluten-free bakery! While known for their baked goods including biscotti, cheesecake cups, pies, cookies, cakes and more, they also serve other food such as baked ziti, chili, and pizza. Pictured above is their delicious banana chocolate chip walnut bread, which looks super yummy!

5. Veggie Heaven, Teaneck, Montclair, & Denville

Culturally-inspired Veggie Heaven is known for their Asian fusion food. With favorites like the Thai Bang Bang Chicken, Crispy Stuffed Tofu, and any of their sushi options, it’s hard to go wrong here. Pictured above is a few of their sushi rolls which look absolutely delicious!

Ice Cream by Mike Opens for the Season

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Ice Cream by Mike in Hackensack, the artisanal ice cream shop, is open again for the 2017 season. #HipNJ has the scoop on the home-made, high quality ice cream and toppings.

The shop was opened in July 2014 by owner, Michael Elias. He makes everything on the premises from scratch and in small batches. Elias had a truly successful year in 2016 when Ice Cream by Mike got major recognition. They were named one of the 10 finalists out of 275 nominations in “N.J.’s Best Ice Cream Shop Showdown” by NJ.com.

The way Mike makes his home-made ice cream is by using local farm fresh eggs and cream. Both classic and artisan flavors are crafted with Valrhona chocolate, pure Tahitian vanilla beans and fresh mint.  Different flavors like Avocado and Toasted Ameretto Brittle have been a special on the menu. It also includes seasonal options when fresh ingredients become available, like strawberry and pumpkin. They have eight classics, including chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and chocolate pecan. 

Customers can grab some ice cream at the shop located on 163 Main Street in Hackensack. Ice Cream by Mike is open seven days a week. Check out their business hours below:

Tuesday — 12:00pm till 9:00pm

Wednesday — 12:00pm till 9:00pm

Thursday — 12:00pm till 9:00pm

Friday — 12:00pm till 10:00pm

Saturday — 12:00pm till 10:00pm

Sunday — 3:00pm till 9:00pm

Halifax in Hoboken Celebrates National Clam Chowder Day

Today is #NationalClamChowderDay! No need to schlep to New England to celebrate.

Chef Seadon Shouse of the Northeastern coastal cuisine restaurant Halifax showcases his seafood prowess with a sophisticated take on Clam Chowder, complete with freshly shucked cherrystone clams, potatoes, onions and celery, topped with housemade oyster crackers seasoned with caraway and shaved double-smoked ham.
