Runway of Dreams will kick-off New York Fashion Week by hosting an industry changing Fashion Show and Gala. This revolutionary event will bring together fashion leaders and innovators to witness change in the fashion industry that is inclusive of people with disabilities.

The evening will feature a cocktail reception, seated dinner, and a RUNWAY SHOW THAT WILL MAKE YOU RE-THINK THE FUTURE OF FASHION.

To fuel our FASHION REVOLUTION we are kicking off the biggest week in the industry. Our move to New York Fashion Week allows us to be part of the energy and conversation amongst fashion leaders, top executives, innovators, designers, models and more. We are putting a stake in the ground to change an industry and inspire innovative design for all consumers including the largest minority group in the world-people with disabilities.

9th Annual Hoboken Comedy Festival Looking for Comedians

Last year over 80 comedians from all over the US performed over several days for comedy opportunities across the United States provided by the Hoboken Comedy Festival. The Festival itself is a 7-day multi-venue 11-show experience in the heart of Hoboken each Autumn. The creators of the Festival are asking for Comedians to submit a 6 minute video online at www.HobokenComedyFestival.org before September 1st to be considered for the New Talent portion.

Taking place September 24th-30th, the festival gives opportunities to 24 New Talent performers, 6 per night Monday to Thursday –the first 4 weekdays of the festival. On each weekday show one of the 6 will “win” another performance on one of the weekend shows, judged by a panel of industry bookers and professionals. Those 4 selected to perform again with then have an opportunity to perform on Sunday and be considered the overall funniest New Talent Performer of the festival.

Along with the New Talent slots in the festival are 11 headliner performances, with a TV tested comedy veteran closing out each show each night. Comedy alum at the Hoboken Comedy Festival are Amy Schumer (performing at the first three Hoboken Comedy Festivals), Artie Lange (SNL), Pete Davidson (SNL), Jermaine Fowler (Showtime), Nate Bargatze (ABC), Carlos Mencia (Comedy Central), Mark Normand (Tonight Show), Judah Friedlander (30Rock), Todd Barry (Louie) and many more.

The festival which celebrates it’s 9th year in 2018, also supports animal welfare and aims to aid in animal homeless by continuing to support and partner with the Liberty Humane Society which they’ve done for the past 6 years. “Our partnership with LHS has been eye opening and heart warming and a crucial component of what we find valuable about running comedy shows with a charitable aspect,” says festival founder Dan Frigolette. “From 2015 to 2017 we even partnered with talented photographer Chris Langston to photograph famous comedians with adoptable dogs for a calendar we sell for more donations.” Each show will donate $1 per head no matter the face value or donated ticket that comes in, and there are opportunities for patrons to give a little extra in the means of cash donations on site at each show. HCF has also donated comedians to host Liberty Humane Society’s Annual Bark in the Park event which takes place every October.

Every Hoboken Comedy Festival show has an Emcee, two Feature acts, and a Headliner, and the corresponding number of New Talent slots depending on the night. Over seven days the Hoboken Comedy Festival will feature 50 New Talent Comedians, and nearly 44 working and established New York City Comedians, boasting more than 94 comedians in total.

Winners of the Festival have gone on to great success, and directly receive stage time at each preceding Hoboken Comedy Festival. The roster includes Brett Druck (Laughs on Fox,) James Myers (Most Upvoted Comedian on Reddit), Kareem Green (Montreal Comedy Festival), Mike Menendez (Comedy Store), Lawrence Deloach (Comedy Central), and Gibran Saleem (MTV). The creators of the Hoboken Comedy Festival also run the NJFunnyfest, Make Me Laugh, and the Comedy’s Best Kept Secret Tour, which travels cross country for multiple shows, cities, and days each winter. A strong performance as new comedians often leads to Nationwide opportunities.

Last year the Festival was able to provide more new talent opportunities than ever before by adding a New Talent component to the outdoor Block Party Show on the Final Sunday of performances.

The Women’s Association of NJPAC‘s Spotlight Gala 2018 kicks off NJPAC’s season and benefits NJPAC and its arts education programs. Celebrating the Music of Lena, Billie and Sarah, a one-time-only performance, features special surprise guest Valerie Simpson and music greats Cyrille Aimée, Southside Johnny, Raul Midón, Alice Smith, and Bernie Williams, performing songs made famous by jazz divas Lena Horne, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. Hosted by six-time GRAMMY®-winning bassist Christian McBride and his Big Band!

Singer Valerie Simpson is half of the songwriting/performing/producing entity formerly known as Ashford & Simpson. Their award-winning collaborations began four decades ago and she, along with her late husband Nick Ashford, have penned classic hits such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “You’re All I Need to Get By,” “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” and “Your Precious Love.”

See the country’s biggest names in jazz, appearing under the direction of the multi-GRAMMY winner Christian McBride, NJPAC’s Jazz Advisor. From “Stormy Weather” and “Strange Fruit” to “Summertime” and “Misty,” expect exciting and original renditions of numbers that will be forever associated with the voices of three legends known simply as Lena, Billie and Sarah.

A past winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition at NJPAC, Cyrille Aimée was a finalist in the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition. Her talents recently caught the attention of Stephen Sondheim, who cast her in a special Encore presentation at City Center.

GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter and guitarist Raul Midón “plays with such freedom and joy that his hands smile,” writes the Huffington Post. His 2016 rendering of John Coltrane’s classic “Giant Steps” – which sees him fly through all 12 keys – has earned more than 1.2 million views via Facebook.

Alice Smith (“Fool for You,” “I Put a Spell on You”) is a passionate singer-songwriter who has an unshakable sense of self and the attitude to match. She was raised on a steady diet of gospel, pop, soul and go-go. Her sophomore album, She, is an intoxicating mixture of rock, pop and R&B.

Retired New York Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams, a four-time World Series Champion and five-time All Star, never gave up his passion for the guitar. His critically acclaimed debut album, 2003’s The Journey Within, featured fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of his Puerto Rican heritage. He is a Latin GRAMMY nominee.
