Super Bowl 51 Recap

By: Lisa Cardoso

Who here loves a great Super Bowl and a great performance? We at Hip New Jersey do! From Luke Bryan singing the national anthem, the Patriots coming back with an unbelievable fight to victory and Lady Gaga’s performance our Sunday was filled with excitement!

To start off super bowl 51,  Luke Bryan sang a classic version of the National Anthem. Last night, was redemption from the 2012 MLB All-star performance where he was criticized for reading the lyrics off of his arm. But that didn’t stop him! He melted our hearts and many others by his performance.

A record breaking nine Super Bowl visits, the Patriots are no strangers to this almost national holiday. With a final score of 34-28 in overtime the Patriots took home their fifth Super Bowl win against the Falcons. This is one of the best comebacks in NFL history. In the third quarter the Falcons had a lead of 28-3, causing viewers to believe Atlanta was taking this win home last night. Although, many try to analyze the Patriots nail biting performance, this was nothing short of a miracle.

Tom Brady is being depicted as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Being the first to have 5 winning Super Bowls under his belt. He was also named MVP.  Brady, tossed the ball to James White and fought his way and into the end zone for the winning touchdown.

Even though, the Giants or the Jets didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, Hip New Jersey has to admit that last night’s game will be portrayed as one of the best Super Bowls in history.

After the announcement that Lady Gaga was performing at Super Bowl 51 many were skeptical. We all know the political battles that have been taking place, and we all know that Lady Gaga is one who stands up for equality; We believed that she would take her 13 minutes and incorporate a strong statement of being ‘born this way’ to all of her ‘little monsters’ (fans).

In fact, she dove off of the top of the stadium and right into her incredible performance singing most of her top rated hits. Without indication of any political views. Lady Gaga kept her performance theatrical by not voicing any opinions.

Her Atelier Versace leotard covered in swarovski crystals and matching boots was the perfect futuristic look. Lady Gaga is known for her fashion statements and this one is believed by many to be inspired by the late David Bowie.

During her short performance Lady Gaga had a costume change! She was given 13 minutes and she changed outfits, I know to many of us, an outfit change could take a few hours! Gaga changed from a sparkly leotard into a white cropped shoulder pad jacket with silver boy shorts. If that wasn’t hot enough, Gaga added fishnet stockings to her already sexy ensemble.

New Jersey Native Super Bowl Players

This Sunday is the game that we have all been waiting for, the Super Bowl. Whether you watch for the game, the halftime show, or the commercials, Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. The Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots will face off in Houston, Texas for the 51st Super Bowl. We at Hip New Jersey wanted to remind you of the New Jersey natives that helped these teams reach the big game.

Logan Ryan– The 25-year old cornerback is from Berlin, New Jersey. Logan Ryan stayed true to New Jersey and played for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from 2010-2012. Ryan was selected in the third round by the New England Patriots in the 2013 NFL draft. This season is Ryan’s fourth year with the team and has started at cornerback for the past two years. This year Ryan led all cornerbacks in tackles.

This is not Ryan’s first Super Bowl game. He was a starter in the Patriots Super Bowl win against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. Ryan will be looking to win his second Super Bowl in his short career. Ryan will have to cover his former college roommate, Mohamed Sanu.

Mohamed Sanu- The 27-year old wide receiver originally from Sayreville, New Jersey, but later moved to Dayton, New Jersey. Mohamed Sanu also stayed true to New Jersey and played for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from 2009-2011. Sanu was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. After the 2015-2016 season, Sanu was a free agent. He chose to sign a five year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

In just his first season with the Falcons he is on his way to his first Super Bowl appearance. Sanu had 59 receptions, 653 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his first season with the Falcons. Sanu will go head-to-head with his former college roommate, Logan Ryan.

Melania Trump wears the Ralph Lauren ensemble very well and beautifully at President Donald Trumps Inauguration on Friday. Her sophisticated look was a sky-blue tweed cashmere jacket, a mock turtle neck dress and matching gloves and pumps! The outfit chosen on this special day will set the tone to Melania’s style for the rest of her term as First Lady. Ralph Lauren has also designed many of Hillary Clinton’s pant suits.

Saturday, held the Women’s March in Washington D.C to make a statement.Their statements varied from women’s rights and to LGBTQ’s rights and many other reasons. The Women’s March wanted to stand up for their beliefs, but not all could attend Washington D.C.’s march. This lead to many ‘sister marches’ throughout the state. The six places in New Jersey, were Trenton, Asbury park, Mount Laurel, Pompton plains, Westfield and Wycoff. Thousands of men and women attended the marches in New Jersey, one of them being Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s wife in Asbury park.

Sunday-Our home teams may not have made the playoffs but we still have a touch of New Jersey going to the super bowl. New Jersey’s very own Rutgers University graduate, Mohamed Sanu of the Atlanta Falcons scored a touchdown bringing them closer to the Super Bowl on February 5th. Mohamed Sanu was drafted from Rutgers University after being the first freshman to ever start as a wide receiver. It doesn’t end there for New Jersey, another Rutgers University graduate Logan Ryan of the New England Patriots is going to the Super Bowl! Ryan plays as a cornerback for the Patriots. Garden states working hard and will be playing harder come February 5th!
