Kendra Scott – Family, Fashion, and Philanthropy

Turning a $500 loan into a billion-dollar fashion brand, Kendra Scott is a story of true inspiration and enduring entrepreneurial spirit. Kendra, a single mom living in Texas with two boys, started making jewelry for her friends and herself before realizing that she could do this for others as well! Combining her creative talent and tenacity, she designed her first collection in 2002 and went store to store selling jewelry out of her wooden tea box!

Nordstrom was the first retailer to carry the Kendra Scott brand, and the business journey kept moving upwards from there! Having expanded into Texas, Midwest and London, Kendra Scott is ready to enter the Northeast region, opening its first retail store in New Jersey at Short Hills Mall.

Our Alex Lee talks to Rachel Tortorella, the store’s assistant manager, about the company’s decision to expand into Northeast, and their product lines including fabulous collections of fine jewelry and signature-scented candles!

Family, Fashion, and Philanthropy – the three core values that have guided the company since its inception in how they operate and give back to the community. To learn more about Kendra Scott, and its full collection of products, visit them online or on Instagram

“Tip Your Cap” to Ray Digmi’s Clothing Brand

Former professional baseball player turned entrepreneur, Ray “Digmi” Navarrete, stops by the #HipNJ studio to talk to our Lisa Marie Latino about his lifestyle clothing brand, Digmi.

Originally just handing out his prototypes to his
minor league baseball friends, Ray has now been able to get his clothing line into some of the nation’s largest retailers. He even has had massive support from MLB stars and celebrities alike!

Ray, born in Teaneck, has had connections to the tri-state area all of his life, and continues to operate his business in the area. A graduate from Seton Hall University, he eventually fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing professional baseball for the New York Mets!

The Digmi brand is built around the brand’s logo, “The Guy In The Tie“, who as Ray describes, is always tipping his cap to the dreamers and hard workers out there, looking to achieve their goals and ambitions. The brand features a collection of t shirts, sweatshirts, polos, hatsouterwear and accessories, that you can find at various retailers and online at www.digmination.com!

Sneaker enthusiast and collector Anthony Caruso, of Denville, NJ, stopped by the #HipNJ studio to show off some of his hip kicks! Caruso runs an Instagram page where sneaker enthusiasts can be featured showing off their super rare kicks. Caruso himself is an avid collector, owning more than 200 pairs! You can say that’s a ‘feet’ not everyone can accomplish!

Caruso brought with him his all-time favorites, while delving into the inside scoop of a budding culture of sneaker enthusiasts. He gave us a rundown of some of his collection, including the colorful Air Jordan Doernbecher 8, which were designed by a patient of the OSHA Doernbecher Children’s hospital. Every year, a child resident of the Ohio hospital gets the opportunity to design a shoe of their very own. These special sneakers can run up into the thousands to purchase!

Not just a collector, this artist sits behind the drawing board as well. He presented to us his very own sports-inspired shoe that he designed himself at the Nike Lab, showing off the ultra-rarities his collection contains!

Caruso, who has been accumulating sneakers since high school, explained the ethos of the community, as well as inflation by reselling to buyers who sometimes spend quite a bit trying to obtain unique footwear.

Interested to see his collection? Get a firsthand look at Caruso’s special assortment at the upcoming Denim Days festival, where he will present an exhibit for attendees!
