Fourth of July Pre-Weekend Recap

Celebration is underway as #NJ heads into #FourthOfJulyWeekend. Whether it be a barbecue, bonfire, or beach trip, everyone has their own special way of celebrating. But the universal (or nationwide, at least) way of celebrating this historic day in American history is, of course, fireworks! But with the holiday falling on a Monday this year, some celebrations were a bit earlier. Here’s what went down over the past week in our special Fourth of July pre-weekend recap.

Saturday, June 25th

Ocean Township and Manchester were among the first in the state to hold their annual Fourth of July firework celebrations – they just couldn’t wait! Morris Plains also took this day to hold its special event dubbed Morris Plains’ Family Day and Fireworks.

Sunday, June 26th

Sunday was the second day of 94.5 PST’s Annual Freedom Festival. This family-friendly event included carnival rides, live music, a car show and more! And, of course, the day was capped off with a fireworks show.

Tuesday, June 28th

Branch Brook Park, a county park in Northern Newark, hosted a Fourth of July performance by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra inside Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Wednesday, June 29th

Hanover Township and Cedar Grove managed to keep spirits high in the middle of the work week by holding their firework celebrations on Wednesday night.

Thursday, June 30th

Did you heard occasional bursting coming from the sky on Thursday night? Well, there’s a lot of different places that could have been coming from. Towns that held fireworks on this night as a prelude to the holiday weekend included Fair Lawn, Fairfield Township, Verona and Montgomery Township. Minor league baseball team Trenton Thunder also held its first of four post-game fireworks exhibit at Arm & Hammer Park on this night.

In a recent article, TIME magazine listed Seaside Heights’ Casino Pier as one of 240 reasons to celebrate America. Just four years ago, Superstorm Sandy completely destroyed the entire boardwalk. Not too long after, mass fires devastated some of the area. In 2016, the repaired boardwalk serves as a reminder that the Garden State really is #StrongerThanTheStorm and is open for the public to enjoy.
