Diane Henderiks: Fresh to Frozen and Back

#HipNJ’s Maria Falzo was joined in the studio by Diane Henderiks; Chef, Nutritionist and Host of “Fresh to Frozen and Back.” This show teaches viewers how to properly prepare meals, freeze them and then bring them back to life later. The result is flavor-packed food that hits the table quickly, saving time and money – a winning recipe in our book!

In this segment Diane discusses one of her secret weapons for infusing flavor: marinades! They are super easy to prepare and freeze. Together, Diane and Maria put together a Curry Yogurt marinade and a Citrus Lime marinade – is your mouth watering, too? Both recipes come together in under three minutes and they go great with any protein. We envision these recipes being a hit at your first summer barbeque, whether as a sandwich, on a salad or just on their own.

Aside from being amazingly simple, these recipes taste great and encourage re-using left overs instead of letting them go to waste. Our favorite part is that you can prepare the meals on your own time, whenever it works best for your schedule!

Out of Service

Out of Service

Out of Service, a Voorhees Township-based band, sat down with Lisa Marie Latino in the #HipNJ studio to talk more about their sound and to promote their recently released LP, What We Bring With Us!

Out of Service is comprised of four high school best friends, Brian McGovern, Mike Capuano, Bryan Williams and Kenny Bond. After a brief intercession during their college days, the foursome has found their passion for music again and reunited.

The band discussed how their reunion has ushered in a new era of music for Out of Service. Brian describes this evolution by explaining that, “when we were writing songs when we were 15 years old every single song was about our most recent break ups. Now our songs are definitely still about human relationships, but they’re definitely more lived… they are about things we couldn’t have conceptualized 15 years ago.”

Though Out of Service is serious about their music, Mike maintains that the ultimate goal of the band is to “just have fun”. The group is committed to ensuring that their passion for music translates into their sound rather than worrying about “making it big.”

You can check out Out of Service’s recently released LP, What We Bring With Us on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon. And for updates regarding upcoming shows and events, click here to visit the band’s Facebook page.

Rising Star Gina Royale

HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sat with Gina Royale, one of the Garden State’s rising stars on the music scene, to discuss her music.

Royale started her first EP, Heir, when she was a senior in high school, and released it June 2015. Then, she went to William Paterson and began work on her second EP titled Brain Waves, which was released June of this year.

Royale describes her music as pop contemporary. She recalls a moment after a performance when someone said to her, “You sound like an edgier Taylor Swift.”

The singer writes all of her own music, from the melody, lyrics, and composition. She writes about things going on in her own life, as well as prominent social issues like eating disorders, racism, and sexual abuse.

Battle Cry,” an anthemic song about a falling out with a friend, stands out on the new EP as an empowering reminder to stay strong and to surround yourself with positivity.

Be sure to follow #HipNJ on social media for details on how to enter our giveaway to win Gina’s latest EP, Brain Waves!

We asked Gina to sing us out, and she happily obliged. Be sure to watch the video above to hear her powerful “Battle Cry.”
