On December 31st, New Brunswick will be home to the region’s most vibrant New Year’s celebration as The Restaurant Guys present the 9th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza.
A collaboration among the city’s hospitality and business communities and produced by Francis Schott and Mark Pascal — a/k/a The Restaurant Guys (owners of Stage Left Steak and Catherine Lombardi restaurants) — New Brunswick New Year’s Eve showcases the city’s prowess and pride as “the capital of Central New Jersey.”
Conceived by Francis and Mark in 2009 as a way for local restaurateurs to rally business during the depths of the Great Recession, what began as a modest event has helped make New Brunswick a holiday and cultural destination, fully funded by donations and sponsorships and drawing crowds of close to 5,000.Says Francis, “Our goal has been to be the opposite of a ‘First Night’ concept — we want to drive visitors into our bars and restaurants to generate business while showing off what a fun town we live and work in. We’ve succeeded beyond our wildest dreams!”
Spectacular fireworks, choreographed to music by world-champion Garden State Fireworks and shot from the roof of the Heldrich Hotel. Drinks specials at downtown restaurants and bars by event sponsors Taittinger Champagne, Hendrick’s Gin, Hudson Whiskey and Monkey Shoulder Scotch. DJ music in Monument Park. Extended hours at many establishments for a post-fireworks nightcap
11.30 pm ~ Monument Park, Livingston Avenue + George Street, New Brunswick, NJ Visitors are invited to explore dining and entertainment options pre- and post-fireworks — see list of participating venues at www.newbrunswicknewyearseve.com
Ring the New Year in right!
New Jersey residents beware – based on research by mattress review site Sleepopolis analyzing the last 30 years of weather data, we can be sure of exactly which date will bring us the lowest temperatures and least amount of solar energy – AKA the most miserable day of the year, January 11.
The weather is only going to be getting worse as the year comes to a close, but on the bright side, it just may very well be a white christmas!
So make your plans now – lug in lots of firewood, stock up on snacks and hot chocolate, and cancel any plans that would include you leaving the house! I mean who would want to be out and about on such a freezing/dark day when you can just stay in bed and hibernate (or go out and build a snowman, that’s the only exception).
January is coming to a close but New Jersey is still going hard by ending off with a bang. This weekend Started off with a boozy festival, leading to a start of a new year and Steve Harvey getting another chance to host the Miss Universe Pageant.
Friday 27th- There is nothing like starting off your weekend sitting back and having an enjoyable glass of wine. Friday invited guests to enjoy a few glasses. Harborside’s waterfront property held Jersey Cities wine festival from 5-10pm on Friday. Tickets included 13 different styles of wine from 9 different countries, live entertainment and food cooked by Chef Eric LeVine winner of 2011 Chopped.
Saturday 28th- Some of us may have already started to slack on our New Year’s resolutions but millions of people have just begun their celebrations. The Chinese New Year started January 28th, is a two week celebration amongst friends and family surrounded by the color red, wishes of good luck and food. The dragon is an iconic symbol of the Chinese new year representing strength, power and good luck. This year is also the year of the Rooster the 10th animal in the cycle.
Sunday 29th- “Let’s get this out of the way. I know what you’re thinking: ‘Is that the guy from last year? Did they bring back that guy from last year?’ Well, they did. It’s me. I’m back!” Joked Steve Harvey January, 29th while given another chance to Host Miss Universe in 2017. He did not make a mistake this year and accurately announced the pageant winner.
A Huge Congratulations to Iris Mittenaere (Miss France) an advocate for Oral Hygiene! She is studying to become a Dental Surgeon and wants to begin campaigning for dental care around the world.
