Interview with Nashville’s Libby Callaway

Hey #HipNJ! Lisa Marie Latino recently had the pleasure of speaking with Nashville’s own Libby Callaway, Founder of the Nashville-based consulting agency, The Callaway. Libby was so kind to inform us of all that this city has to offer!

She told us that Nashville is a fantastic place to get some BBQ, specifically hot chicken! Gallatin Pike is the hub for great BBQ as there are several spots near each other.

In addition to great food, there is also fantastic coffee shops, concerts and shops located near Marathon Music Works. It is a thriving area with very friendly people and a great variety of things to do!

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Nashville, Libby recommends the Noelle Hotel. A cultural mecca, this hotel is near several shops owned by local designers and artists.

Nashville is definitely a fun place to grab some drinks and see some live music. Libby recommends Robert’s Western World—“the honky-tonk to end all honky tonks!” Her two top country music venues are the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium, which used to be an old church!

Fashion, of course, is a hot commodity in Nashville. East Nashville is the place to be for great fashion and Libby’s recommendations include Black Shag Vintage and High Class Hillbilly.

Nikki Lane

Nashville Entrepreneur Nikki Lane

While on a recent trip to Nashville, #HipNJ chatted with Music City singer/songwriter Nikki Lane! Not only is Lane an artist, but she’s also an entrepreneur!

Lane wrote her first song at the age of 25, after a breakup and says becoming a songwriter was “one of the most selfish things” she’d ever done. During her early songwriting days, her main line of work involved working in fashion.

Once she got a record deal, she moved from NYC to Nashville, where she grew her music career and business, High Class Hillbilly. Lane explains that the road to success hasn’t been a clear and steady one, but because she persevered, she ended up where she is today.

Lane says, “Getting those no’s and getting those rejections in the field you want are just kind of pushing you to be more creative and a better version of the type of project you’re trying to do and so, just try little harder”.

High Class Hillbilly is based in Nashville, TN. The items they sell are vintage, hand picked from places all over the US. The vintage boutique is filled with hats, vintage boots, fashion pieces, fun pieces and leather goods.

Make sure you check them out to complete your favorite vintage look!

Nikki Lane and TENCEL™ Join New York Denim Days

New York Denim Days (September 22-23) continues to connect the dots between denim insiders and denim lovers with the latest players to join its ranks: title sponsor TENCEL™ branded fibers by Lenzing and musical guest/vintage denim purveyor Nikki Lane.

“We are pleased to be returning to New York Denim Days as a sponsor and bringing ‘TENCEL™ Feels So Right’ to consumers,” said Tricia Carey, TENCEL’s director of global business development. “It is amazing to see denim enthusiasts discover how trees are made into jeans and feel the comfort of TENCEL™ Denim.”

Derived from nature, Lenzing’s TENCEL™ Denim is made from sustainably harvested trees, to provide softness and performance with a low impact on the environment. As title sponsor, TENCEL™ will create a shop-in-shop stocked with a selection of garments using its fiber from top brands, including 3X1, Mavi, Reformation, Godfather of Denim and more.

“TENCEL™ [lyocell] is not only a beautiful fiber that makes for incredible denim, it is one of the most important fibers in the denim industry and is helping to make the denim industry more sustainable and environmentally responsible,” said Andrew Olah, one of the organizers of New York Denim Days.

On September 23, Denim Days will take to the streets of Manhattan for an open-to-the-public denim bazaar that will shut down 18th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The day-long event will feature vintage dealers and artisans, food trucks, festival games and musical entertainment.

Nikki Lane, the Nashville-based country singer/songwriter and proprietor of the vintage boutique High Class Hillbilly, will headline the free Denim Days outdoor concert. Shoppers and fans can purchase her hand-selected vintage offerings inside the Denim Days festival.

About TENCEL™
TENCEL™ is the textile specialty brand under The Lenzing Group that covers textile specialty product offerings for apparel and home. The TENCEL™ product brand portfolio defines a new evolutionary step in terms of sustainability, functional benefits, natural comfort and caters for distinctive everyday usage or application. Product brands under TENCEL™ includes TENCEL™ Active, TENCEL™ Denim, TENCEL™ Home, TENCEL™ Footwear, TENCEL™ Intimate and TENCEL™ Luxe.

Featuring botanic origin and biodegradable quality, TENCEL™ Modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers can enhance breathability of fabrics and have minimal static charge when used in fabrics. Fabrics made of TENCEL™ Modal and Lyocell fibers are also gentle on skin with smooth, long-lasting softness, color vibrancy and color retention features. Through moisture management, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers absorb moisture efficiently. With less available moisture formed on the surface of the fiber for bacteria to grow, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers provide a less favorable environment for bacterial growth, offering better hygienic qualities. Moisture management and thermal regulation fiber properties can be found in TENCEL™ Home and TENCEL™ Active branded fabrics.

Fibers used under the TENCEL™ brand are derived from certified and controlled sources following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. Namely TENCEL™ Modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell, both cellulosic fibers are produced via responsible production processes and are compostable and biodegradable. TENCEL™ Modal and TENCEL™ Lyocell are designated by the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) BioPreferred® Program.
