Denim Days Sponsor Tencel™: Denim from the Ground Up!

Keep it casual or dress it up. Find it everywhere from the boardwalk to the catwalk. With a versatile look that spans from edgy to cozy, denim is a cultural fashion staple worth celebrating. And with only five weeks standing between us and the third annual Denim Days Festival, we can’t wait to see what amazing experiences are waiting for us on June 8 and 9 in NYC!

To give us a sneak peek, #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino welcomes fellow host, Maria Falzo, who also serves as the Marketing Director for the New York Denim Days Festival, along with Tricia Carey,Director Global Business Development-Denim at Lenzing Fibers.

As Maria explains, ‘Denim Days’ was born six years ago in Amsterdam, and has since found additional homes in New York City and in Nashville, Tennessee. Attendees can expect a one-of-a-kind experience that goes beyond the amazing shopping.

As in past seasons, attendees will find a selection of brands, designers, artisans and vintage vendors as well as new activations and interactive installations from denim supply chain members, artists and more.

In addition to the two-day indoor extravaganza at Metropolitan Pavillion, a one-day outdoor vintage denim market on June 9 will shut down 18th Street and feature live entertainment, food and activities for the whole family.

Tencel™ branded fibers by Lenzing return as the title sponsor of New York Denim Days. Tricia explains that year’s theme is “Denim from the ground up”, a fun play on the fact that Tencel comes from recycled trees. In fact, her entire outfit in made from Tencel, even her jacket and t-shirt! This year, brands like 3×1Garbage by Marta Goldschmied, Athleta and Triarchy will bring these recycled fibers to life.

Denim Days is Back in 2019!

Denim Days, the festival produced by denim industry insiders to connect denim professionals, designers and brands directly to denim consumers, has announced the dates of their three upcoming denim festivals in New York (June 8/9), Nashville (October 5/6) and Amsterdam (October 21-27).

New York Denim Days kicks off the festival calendar with a two-day event at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street) on June 8 and 9. As in past seasons, attendees will find a selection of brands, designers, artisans and vintage vendors as well as new activations and interactive installations from denim supply chain members, artists and more. A one-day outdoor vintage denim market on June 9 will shut down 18th street and feature live entertainment, food and activities for the whole family. TENCEL™ branded fibers by Lenzing return as the title sponsor of New York Denim Days.

Nashville Denim Days debuted to much acclaim in 2018 and returns to Marathon Music Works (1402 Clinton Street) on October 5 and 6. The festival celebrates not only denim’s heritage and authenticity but also Nashville’s vibrant music scene, which quite literally took center stage at the inaugural Nashville Denim Days. Attendees at the upcoming edition will find a vibrant mix of denim and independent brands, vintage vendors and artisans as well as musical performances by local Nashville musicians and food from a selection of local eateries.

Amsterdam Denim Days – the one that started it all – will celebrate all things indigo with seven days of events, trade shows, activations and parties all over the city. The week-long Amsterdam Denim Days includes industry-only events such as the Kingpins Show Amsterdam, an invitation-only denim sourcing show and Kingpins Transformers, a day-long event promoting sustainability and corporate responsibility in denim, as well as a “City Center” program of in-store sales and parties at participating retailers. Denim Days Amsterdam culminates with the Denim Days Festival set for the last weekend of October.

Denim Days Festival will feature the best denim brands, seminars, installations, vintage treasure hunting, music, food and drinks, workshops and many more to explore.

“We have found that the Denim Days concept is the perfect vehicle to celebrate jeans and connect the industry to consumers in a vital and engaging manner,” said Andrew Olah, one of the Denim Days organizers and founder of Kingpins Show. “The idea of creating a space where brands, designers and industry insiders come together to commune, engage in discourse and inspire denim lovers is endlessly interesting to us. Denim Days is platform where consumers can buy a pair of jeans directly from the designer, attend a seminar about sustainability by an industry expert, experience a fun, interactive installation and then get their hands blue indigo dyeing a garment.”

Interview with Nashville’s Libby Callaway

Hey #HipNJ! Lisa Marie Latino recently had the pleasure of speaking with Nashville’s own Libby Callaway, Founder of the Nashville-based consulting agency, The Callaway. Libby was so kind to inform us of all that this city has to offer!

She told us that Nashville is a fantastic place to get some BBQ, specifically hot chicken! Gallatin Pike is the hub for great BBQ as there are several spots near each other.

In addition to great food, there is also fantastic coffee shops, concerts and shops located near Marathon Music Works. It is a thriving area with very friendly people and a great variety of things to do!

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Nashville, Libby recommends the Noelle Hotel. A cultural mecca, this hotel is near several shops owned by local designers and artists.

Nashville is definitely a fun place to grab some drinks and see some live music. Libby recommends Robert’s Western World—“the honky-tonk to end all honky tonks!” Her two top country music venues are the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium, which used to be an old church!

Fashion, of course, is a hot commodity in Nashville. East Nashville is the place to be for great fashion and Libby’s recommendations include Black Shag Vintage and High Class Hillbilly.
