Top Night Spots in New Jersey

According to 2018 travel and tourism data, New Jersey ranks highly among the most visited states in the US. There are many reasons cited as to why New Jersey is such a darling to many people chief among them being the vibrant nature of the state’s nightlife. It is for this reason why we decided to share with you some of the top night spots in New Jersey, just in time for New Year’s Eve!

As a side note, you ought to know that New Jersey is one of the few states in the US which regulate online gambling hence you can still play blackjack online when you visit this northeastern US state.

The Dome Rooftop & Lounge at the Manor
For those who love wining and dining at upscale bars, New Jersey offers The Dome Rooftop & Lounge at the Manor. Both local and foreign beverages are served at this stunning bar. Most-played music at the Dome Rooftop is old school hits. The beauty of the Dome Rooftop bar is that it’s located at the top of the Manor restaurant hence revelers get to see the beautiful stars overhead when they are on the dance floor or just resting on the sofas. Every Fridays and Saturdays there are some live performances at the Dome Rooftop bar.

46 Lounge
Depending on the day that you visit 46 Lounge, you can expect to enjoy some hip-hop, mash-ups, house or some contemporary Brazilian music. While 46 Lounge offers a bit of everything in terms of music, the beauty of this place is in its design. 46 Lounge comes in contemporary ambience with a Brazilian cherry dance floor. The dance floor is quite spacious that dozens of people can all enjoy the blasting music all at once.

Mandala
Just like 46 Lounge, Mandala bar offers different themes for different crowds on different days. The most popular nights at Mandala are Latino Nights i.e. Fridays and Saturdays and Gay Nights on Thursdays and Sundays. Open every day of the week, visitors to Mandala can expect to enjoy themselves on the dance floor any day. Mandala serves both local and foreign beverages. There’s a nearby grill and restaurant in case one needs to ‘fuel up’ during the night.

Bar A
Bar A differs from other night spots on this list in that it is open both day and night. Bar A consists of both an indoor bar and an outdoor bar. Those who want to enjoy themselves on the dance floor will have to go indoors. However, those who just want to chill while enjoying their drinks will best do so outside where there are large gazebos. Apart from the bar, Bar A also has a restaurant that serves delicate cuisine.

The Wonder Bar
For the real American experience, visitors to New Jersey must visit The Wonder Bar. The Wonder Bar does not open every day but when it does, you can expect to live your life to the fullest in the few hours that you will be inside. The dance floor of this stunning bar accommodates over 2000 patrons and only blues, rock and roots music is played here.

Interview with Nashville’s Libby Callaway

Hey #HipNJ! Lisa Marie Latino recently had the pleasure of speaking with Nashville’s own Libby Callaway, Founder of the Nashville-based consulting agency, The Callaway. Libby was so kind to inform us of all that this city has to offer!

She told us that Nashville is a fantastic place to get some BBQ, specifically hot chicken! Gallatin Pike is the hub for great BBQ as there are several spots near each other.

In addition to great food, there is also fantastic coffee shops, concerts and shops located near Marathon Music Works. It is a thriving area with very friendly people and a great variety of things to do!

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Nashville, Libby recommends the Noelle Hotel. A cultural mecca, this hotel is near several shops owned by local designers and artists.

Nashville is definitely a fun place to grab some drinks and see some live music. Libby recommends Robert’s Western World—“the honky-tonk to end all honky tonks!” Her two top country music venues are the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium, which used to be an old church!

Fashion, of course, is a hot commodity in Nashville. East Nashville is the place to be for great fashion and Libby’s recommendations include Black Shag Vintage and High Class Hillbilly.

#HipNJ Does Iceland

When my parents revealed that we were going to Iceland for our summer vacation, my siblings and I were surprised, to say the least. Our vacations typically consisted of traveling in the States, and this sounded like an interesting change of pace.

As we inched closer and closer to departure, curiosity (and worry) started to fill my thoughts. Were we about to spend the next ten days in the frozen tundra, with little excitement and culture to fill our days? Happily, the answer was no! After spending ten days exploring this beautiful land, I acquired an amazing knowledge of the outstanding geography and wide range of activities that Iceland has to offer.

If you’re planning on traveling to Iceland, or are just eager to learn more about this unique country, here are five places that made my trip unforgettable.

Exploring a Black Sand Beach:
This stunning location at Reynisfjara is a world-famous black sand beach found on the Southern coast of Iceland. This destination is not your average beach. It is surrounded by basalt rocks, breathtaking columns and one-of-a-kind cave structures. Make sure you watch out for the “sneaker waves” or powerful waves that come up when you least expect it!

Taking on the Nightlife in Reykjavik:
Iceland’s largest city is full of opportunities to explore during the day as well as at night. Aside from the endless shopping and restaurants that are sure to take up your afternoon, Reykjavik’s nightlife is extremely diverse. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing happy hour or a place to bust a move, the city is full of countless bars for all of your nightlife pursuits. Here are three bars that I highly recommend checking out:

Húrra– Looking to spice up your Monday? Húrra nightclub has free jazz every Monday starting at 9 pm! On every other day, the bar is lit up with electronic music, making it a perfect spot to get your groove on.

Lebowski– Both a restaurant and a bar, the Lebowski is constantly packed and playing everyone’s favorite throwback music! If you want to grab a bite to eat, listen to some 90’s music or both, this bar is the place for you.

KaffiBarinn– A café during the day and a bar at night, KaffiBarinn is constantly having local bands perform. If you’re planning on stopping in early, KaffiBarinn has happy hour specials every day of the week. You can also make your Sundays a little more bearable by stopping in to get a free waffle!

Snowmobiling On the Glacier:
If you’re on the more adventurous side, you cannot pass up the opportunity to go snowmobiling on the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull. This experience comes with a combination of thrills, breathtaking views, and a trained guide who is full of intriguing facts about the glacier and the country itself. Here, you can see the true beauty of the nature of Iceland. The magnificent view from the top of the glacier is an experience I will never forget.

Touring an Ice Cave:
On the second largest glacier in Iceland, Langjökull holds a man-made ice tunnel. The only way to access this incredible ice formation is on a guided tour where you will be given a helmet light and crampons to help you successfully navigate through the cave! This is an opportunity like never before, where you not only get to see the beauties of the glacier, but you get to see it from the inside. Make sure to dress warm!

White Water Rafting:
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, this next activity is not to be missed. Rafting on the East Glacier River featured three hours of beautiful scenery along with roaring rapids that reached a class 4 and 5 on the rafting scale. Towards the end of your rafting journey, your guide will offer you a chance to jump off a 30-foot-high cliff into the raging river, before heading back to the base camp for a cup of Icelandic lamb soup, to help you warm back up.

I highly recommend visiting this amazing land of fire and ice. Don’t forget to stop at all the great waterfalls!
