Paterson Falls Film Festival

Have you ever wanted to experience the magic of the Sundance Film Festival or Cannes?  Well, now is your chance…right here in New Jersey!

Paterson is playing host to the Paterson Falls Film Festival on June 14 and 15.  The film festival will feature over 40 films and documentaries at the Fabian 8 inside the Center City Mall and at Ivanhoe Artists Mosaic.

#HipNJ’s Gina Cerniglia chatted with Paterson Falls Film Festival Creative Director, Tazio Ruffilo, about bringing attention to the arts of Paterson.

“There is untapped talent in New Jersey, especially here in Paterson, and I wanted to create an outlet to showcase that,” explained Taz.

One of the standout films from last year’s fest was “Jigsaw”, written and directed by recently-retired Montclair State University professor Suzanne Trauth.  “Jigsaw” is about a middle-aged women that moves to Las Vegas to discover her purpose in life, and Suzanne incorporated her love of jigsaw puzzles into the plot.  #HipNJ spoke to Suzanne about her award-nominated short.

“Seeing my film on the big screen was indescribable,” Suzanne gushed.

For this year’s event, a part of the proceeds will go to local non-profit organizations that seek to benefit the arts in Paterson.

WFAN’s Boomer and Carton with Governor Chris Christie

Summer 2014 is officially a go!

Excited sports fans lined up in front of D’Jais Bar & Grill in Belmar as early as 3 a.m. for WFAN’s 660am & 101.9FM morning show, Boomer & Carton, and their first annual “Kick-Off to Summer.”

A buzz filled the air as Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton talked the latest sports news, but not without the occasional interruption from the raucous crowd. The interaction with the hosts provided them with a once-and-a-lifetime chance to get to know their favorite morning show personalities.

Attendees were treated to a special performance from the Gin Blossoms, who performed some of their most famous hits such as “Hey Jealousy.”  But the surprise of the morning was an appearance from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  Governor Christie, a diehard fan of the show, came to show his support for his long- time friends.  In between sports chit-chat, he promoted the rebuilt Jersey Shore, urging listeners to check out the new and improved Garden State beaches communities.

Numerous companies sponsored the “Kick Off to Summer” including 888 Poker, the first legal online gaming website in New Jersey.

While you are heading down the shore, don’t forget catch Boomer & Carton every morning this summer at 6 a.m. on WFAN 660am and 101.9fm New York!

Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation Gala

Pequannock, New Jersey-born Derek Jeter has been dazzling New York Yankees fans for almost 20 years, and his accomplishments off the field have been just as impressive.

Since the launch of his Turn 2 Foundation in 1996, the charity has awarded more than $19 million in grants to promote healthy lifestyles for thousands of children.

#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino recently attended Turn 2’s 18th Annual Gala Dinner at the Sheraton New York Times Square in New York City, which raised over one million dollars for their various programs. Derek’s Yankee teammates (like CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner), Hollywood celebrities (Seth Meyers) and some Jersey staples (Joe Piscopo and Sampson Davis) came out to support The Captain.  Guests were also treated to a special performance by international recording artist Robin Thicke.

On the red carpet, Lisa Marie chatted with Derek, his former manager Joe Torre, and former teammate Tino Martinez.  We also spoke with Senior VP of Marketing for the New York Yankees, Deborah Tymon (who was awarded with the 2014 Turn 2 MVP award) and MLB Network‘s Harold Reynolds.
