#NationalSandwichDay 5 of NJ’s Best Sandwiches

Hey #HipNJ, today is #NationalSandwichDay! To celebrate, let’s take a look at 5 of the Garden State’s most mouthwatering sandwiches!

1. Fat Darrell, RU Hungry, New Brunswick

RU Hungry is home to the famous fat sandwich, a concoction of a hoagie roll, finger food, and usually lettuce, tomato and french fries. Their best-seller is the Fat Darrell, topped with chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, and french fries. It is a must-stop if you are ever in the Rutgers area!

2. Brunchwich, The Committed Pig, Manasquan, Morristown & Summit

The Committed Pig is known for the Brunchwich, their modern-twist on brunch and sandwiches. This sandwich is a bacon, egg, and cheese on french toast. Sounds SO good! Check out any one of their three locations located around the state!

3. Deli Sandwich, Harold’s NY Deli, Edison

It’d be in your best interest to bring a few friends with you to this famous deli known for their gargantuan sandwiches. The meats you can choose from include corned beef, hot pastrami, roast beef, brisket, turkey, salami and more. The huge serving size almost guarantees you’ll be walking out with a hearty box of leftovers!

4. White House Special, White House Subs, Atlantic City

Located on Atlantic City’s Arctic Avenue, White House Subs has been one of the best sub shops in the Garden State for decades. Their signature sandwich is the White House Special which is a classic Italian sub topped with extra salami, provolone, ham, and capicola.

5. Cheesesteak, Donkey’s Place, Camden

“Hang your head in shame, Philadelphia, the best cheesesteak in the country is whipped up across the Delaware in Camden, New Jersey” (NY Post). Served on a poppy seed bun and often topped with hot peppers and onions, this cheesesteak is claimed to be arguably the best in the country. It was even featured on Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown!

#HipNJ Remembers Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain, chef, storyteller, writer and host of CNN‘s “Parts Unknown,” has passed away at the age of 61.

Bourdain took viewers around the world to uncover lesser known places and explore cultures and cuisine. He was born in New York City, and grew up in Leonia.

Bourdain was in France working on his CNN series at the time of his death. He is survived by his 11-year-old daughter, Ariane, and his girlfriend, Asia Argento.

His death comes just days after fashion designer Kate Spade took her own life at the age of 55.
