Millie’s Old World Meatballs and Pizza

Millie’s Old World Meatballs and Pizza of Staten Island

If you weren’t hungry before, you definitely are now!
Millie’s Old World Meatballs and Pizzain Morristown, is now opening a new restaurant in their hometown of Staten Island!

Brothers and founders Vince and Brandon Carrabba grew up in Staten Island and decided to go back home. Their second location, Millie’s of Staten Island is in the Bricktown Center at Charleston (185 Bricktown Way, Staten Island, NY 10309).

The new bistro is described to be “an elevated neighborhood dining destination for families, friends, and couples serving lunch, dinner, and brunch featuring signature coal and wood-fired pizzas, famous meatballs and salads.”

Millie’s of Staten Island is 4,000 sf and has a grand dining area that can hold 85 seats, a pizza counter made for 10 and a fully serviced bar. Their bar will also offer signature cocktails, wine, and beer! But it is the three large garage doors that open up to a 72-seat outdoor patio that really takes the cake pizza.

SR Design Studio helped turn the dream into reality. The restaurant is not like your typical Italian restaurant. Millie’s incorporates unique and contemporary design elements.

The custom made bar is created with blackened steel and LED lights  to create the illusion of coal embers. They also made their hardwood floors to resemble their wood-burning ovens by using Japanese charred cedar wood. Finally, they have breathtaking hand-assembled chain link wall art purchased from Spain featuring Millie’s image.

These are just a few of the aspects that make Millie’s of Staten Island so inviting and intriguing. Now you just have to stop in and see for yourself! Visit MilliesOldWorld.com for more information.

Olivella Italian Restaurant’s Opening Party

#HipNJ has details on Olivella, a new Italian cuisine restaurant in North Bergen, and on its opening party on Friday, March 10th. The event was a huge hit, with many influential NJ residents in attendance. North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Executive Chef/Partner Salvatore Olivella kicked off the event with a ribbon cutting to unveil the new spot. Some special guests, including Cliffside and Edgewater Mayors, and Real Housewives of New Jersey stars, Robyn Levy and Christina Flores, were also in attendance.

The party started off with DJ Pacheco of New Line Entertainment setting the scene while Chef/Partner Salvatore Olivella, one of the country’s top pizza makers, passed out his specialty brick oven pizzas and many of the menu’s antipasti, pasta, and entrees.

Salvatore Olivella, a native of Naples, Italy, has established a resume for himself that is truly impressive. He co-owns Olivella’s Neo Pizza Napoletana, a group of four restaurants located in Dallas, Texas. He also has consulted for many top pizza spots in New York, including Marta, the Serafina Group, L’asso, Numero 28, and more. The 50-seat restaurant was built with a wood-burning pizza oven as the centerpiece, and the rear dining room is flooded with natural light through a glass roof.

His menu includes many different Italian dishes, such as…
Sushi di Parma, housemade fior di latte cheese wrapped in prosciutto di San Daniele
Gnocchi Alla Romagnola with porcini, fresh truffle in a Pinot Grigio sauce
Farfalle di Olivella, bowtie pasta sautéed with smoked Norwegian salmon, shallots, vodka and salmon caviar
Pollo alla Valdostana, chicken breast sautéed with wild mushrooms, prosciutto and fontina sauce
Filet Mignon al Barolo with porcini mushrooms
Costoletta di Vitello Milanese, thinly pounded veal that’s breaded and served on the bone, topped with salad and parmigiano

The wood fired pizzas are Neapolitan traditional pies made with the highest quality house-made fresh mozzarella, imported San Marzano tomatoes from Italy, ‘nduja (spicy spreadable pork sausage from Calabria), spicy soppressata (dry salami) and spicy honey. The tomatoes are imported San Marzano DOP certified tomatoes from Italy. The Don Maradona Snow White is made with fresh ricotta, housemade fior di latte cheese, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil. Olivella also gets creative with his Frank Sinatra pizza, which is topped with burrata, bresaola, arugula, and lemon dressing. Another creation of his is the Agrodolce Olivella, a sweet and sour marriage of housemade fior di latte, gorgonzola, pear, parmigiano, walnuts and honey. The menu also offers calzones, such as their Classico or La Vesuviana. The Classico is made with mozzarella, ricotta and San Marzano tomatoes. The La Vesuviana is half calzone and half customer’s choice of pizza.
