#HipNJ Welcomes Rocky

#HipNJ  is so excited to announce the newest furry addition to our family, Rocky!

Our very own Kenny Barilari welcomed him into his home this week,  thanks to Animal Rescue ‘R’ Us in Lodi.

Rocky is originally from Alabama, and is believed to be an Australian Shepherd and Pitbull mix. He is a very sleepy pup who loves to be held.

Be sure to follow us on Instagram as we document his growth.

National Puppy Day

National Puppy Day

Happy National Puppy Day! On National Puppy Day there are many things that you can do – you can treat your own dog but more importantly you can adopt a puppy from a local New Jersey shelter. Here are some New Jersey shelters where you can adopt a puppy locally.

Bloomfield Animal Shelter in Bloomfield

Obie is available for adoption! ? He was found as a stray last year and has been working on his manners to become a gentleman. He is a volunteer favorite for his goofy ways! He is approx 2-3 years old, altered, and UTD on vaccinations. He has beautiful eyes and a white coat with brown spots. Obie walks well on a leash and loves to play. He is very friendly with those he knows and trusts, and also gets along will with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats. He is a sweet boy who just needs the right home where he can get the love and attention he needs. Obie is wary of strangers at first, so anyone who is interested in adopting him will need to come for several visits to get to know each other first. He doesn't realize his size and thinks he's a lap dog, which is why he needs someone experienced to help teach boundaries, and why we don't recommend he be adopted by someone with young children. If you are a new dog owner and want to adopt Obie, you should be willing to commit to working with him with a professional trainer. Obie loves treats, which will make training easier – and fun for him! He will do best in a household that does not have frequent visitors since he needs slow introduction to new people.#adoptdontshop #newjersey #bloomfieldnj #dogs #dogsofinstgram #terrier

Secaucus Animal Shelter in Secaucus

Hi! My name is Apollo. I am about a year old and believed to be a Cane Corso mix. Someone left me tied to a fence and the wonderful people from The Secaucus Animal Shelter came and saved me?. I look intimidating, but I am a huge love bug❤️. My first home did not properly train me, but the Secaucus Animal Shelter saw all of my potentional and sent me to a trainer for the past 4 weeks. Now I am a completley different dog and they are so proud of me ??! My ideal home would be one with children 10 years old and above(if any children at all) and recommended to be the only dog. I am very dog friendly, I just require a lot of time and attention. A home with a yard is the home for me, big dogs need room to roam! Whoever wants to love me furever should also be an experienced dog owner – someone who will stay consistent with my training. Training me is a breeze because I am very food modivated, but NOT food aggressive. I know all of my commands(sit, down, wait, come, stay, etc). I also walk very nicely on a leash and I am potty&crate trained. I love any and all toys! *Perks to love this boy included in adoption* Any questions or interest please contact The Secaucus Animal Shelter (201) 348-3213 . I am staying at my trainers house and I am available through the shelter by appointment only.

Pokemon Go and a Jeter Wedding: Weekend Recap

Just because the holiday weekend has passed doesn’t mean that #NJ isn’t, well, hip anymore! The #GardenState had nothing short of awesome things happening throughout. See what went down and who stirred things up this weekend in our weekly weekend recap.

Earlier in the week, Pokemon Go was released on the app store. In the game, virtual Pokemon appear through the player’s smartphone camera and are to be captured and trained by the player. The fever over this new twist in the international franchise made its way to New Jersey this weekend as people of all ages indulged in this new virtual reality.

In probably the most adorable of news, the state revealed to the public that the senate recently passed a bill that requires all pet stores in New Jersey to sell only dogs that originate from animal shelters or rescues. The bill seeks to battle the issue of the abundance of puppy mills throughout the nation. Next, the bill will go to the assembly, where a debate will ensue.

Canadian superstar Justin Bieber made his stratospheric comeback with Purpose, his latest album, after a few unfortunate clashes with the media and he’s celebrating it with the Purpose World Tour. The show hit the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday night. With singles like “Sorry” and “Love Yourself,” it’s hard not to learn to be a #Belieber again. The media loves a bad boy, right?

Saturday marked day two of the The Vampire Diaries Official Convention at the Hilton Parsippany. Fans in attendance had the opportunity to actively engage in the fictitious world of the popular show all weekend. Perhaps the most exciting and highly anticipated part of the convention was a celebrity appearance by Ian Somerhalder, one of the show’s main stars.

While it may have been a sad day for the ladies, it was certainly a happy day for Derek Jeter as he tied the knot with girlfriend and model Hannah Davis on Saturday. Jeter, the Pequannock Township-born professional baseball shortstop, and Davis chose the small ceremony route and wed in Napa, California.

Old Bridge native and elite gymnast Laurie Hernandez didn’t hesitate to wow the audience and the rest of the young gymnasts watching nationwide at the gymnastics Olympic Trials in San Jose, California. In her first year as a senior gymnast, she was named to the team for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics on Sunday night at 16 years old. She finished well ahead of many of her elders, earning herself gymnastics superstardom.

Young Australian rock band 5 Seconds of Summer proved that they can keep up with the other biggest boy bands in the world on Sunday. Currently in its North American leg and in support of Sounds Good Feels Good, the band’s latest album, the Sounds Live Feels Live World Tour arrived in Holmdel at none other than the PNC Bank Arts Center.

I love playing to you. Thank you for this evening Holmdel, New Jersey, we had 12,000 strong tonight xx
